Yuan Zhinan, born in June 1964, trained at the Beijing Workers' And Sports Amateur Sports School as a teenager. In 1979, at the age of 15, he was recruited into the vanguard by the then head coach Wang Yicheng and began to receive more formal professional training. However, when he really played a certain reputation, he was already twenty-five or six years old.
In the first 10 years of his fight for the avant-garde men's basketball team, the team has been hovering in the second division.
In 1989, the then second-class vanguard competed in the first Club Cup in the country. He fought tenaciously with his teammates, and their style of play at that time was a collective multi-point long-range shooting tactic. In the game of many first-class teams, they broke through the siege, won the runner-up, and broke out a big cold goal.
In 1990, Yuan Zhinan, as the core of the attack, fought with several young players, and the vanguard team that had just rushed into the first division team reached the quarterfinals in the league.
Yuan Zhinan, who was 26 years old in the same year, and his teammate Qin Chunjing were appointed assistant coaches at the same time.
In 1991, they defeated the defending champion Hebei men's basketball team in the first division and once again reached the quarterfinals. Yuan Zhinan, as the core of the team's attack and defense, led a group of young generals, including Liu Daqing and Ding Wei, who later entered the national team.
With their fast movement, multi-point attack, and outside shooting style, they have formed a unique style in the domestic basketball world.
Yuan Zhinan has developed a technique that can break through to the basket from all angles, as long as the defender is slightly distracted, he will suddenly attack the basket and deliver a fatal blow. Not only that, his tactical coordination such as strategy and cover, and the use of long-range shots, steals, assists and other techniques are very handy.
Because of his outstanding performance in that year's First Division, he was selected for the Chinese United team with his teammate Qin Chunjing and participated in a tour in Singapore. Yuan Zhinan scored more than 20 points against a mixed team in the United States, which was eye-catching.

In the 1995 front guard, there were no tall interior players, every position could shoot from the outside, the whole team was fast, and the team played. The relegated vanguard team and 7 other teams such as Jilin and Hubei participated in the newly formed CNBA League. However, due to the shortage of funds, the CNBA League was held for only one session and died tragically, and the Jilin team won the only championship of this league.

At the 8th National Games in 1997, the vanguard clashed with the host Team Shanghai. The Shanghai team sent a young Yao Ming to use the height to suppress the opponent. Yuan Zhinan assumed the role of confronting Yao Ming.
At this time, Yao Ming was very young and was "played" by the experienced Yuan Zhinan.

Some of his small actions in the league often irritate opponents, causing changes in the opponent's psychology, so that he can play abnormally and work repeatedly.
He joined Jiangsu Nangang in the 1997-98 season, where he and Hu Weidong combined their swords, averaging 15 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game;
He joined Sichuan in 1998–99 and averaged 13 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.
In the 1999-2000 season, the forward team returned to the CBA A League with a runner-up in the first division B, and Yuan Zhinan returned to the team. Due to the merger of the vanguard and the Beijing Aushin team, it eventually became the former Oshen team.
I thought that the combination of strong and strong could achieve better results, but at the end of the season, I only finished 6th. Yuan Zhinan ranks 13th in the league scoring list with an average of 19 points per game.
In the following 3 years, due to the increase in age and the growth of young players in the team, Yuan Zhinan's playing time has decreased, and the data has declined year by year. In the 2002-03 season, the 39-year-old Yuan Zhinan averaged 10 points per game and could still contribute on the field.
In this season, Yuan Zhinan has been on the cusp of the storm, and the result of his behavior on the court has made him bear the reputation of "evil man". Left a humiliating memory of his career.
His teammate Ma Jian, who was in Aushin, was asked, "Who is the dirtiest of your contemporaries?" At the time, Ma Jian bluntly said that it was Yuan Zhinan.
In the 12th round of the 2002-03 CBA regular season, in the beijing Shougang game against Beijing Aoshen, the white foreign assistant Chris, who had just scored 60 points in the last game, was supported by Yuan Zhinan's calf with his knees and fell to the ground. After examination by the hospital, the diagnosis was a meniscal tear and a serious injury to the knee.
