Last year today was Pan's first day after receiving a double lung transplant. In the past year, he has completely escaped the torment of interstitial lung disease, bid farewell to high-flow oxygen equipment, and enjoyed the hard-won free breathing. "At that time, the patient's condition had progressed to an irreversible and terminal lung disease state, and it was difficult to maintain oxygen saturation under the continuous high flow of oxygen, and he could not tolerate any minor activity, and due to his long medical history, repeated co-infections, he already had multi-drug resistant bacteria." Professor Cao Qingdong, director of surgery, director of thoracic surgery and head of the lung transplant team of the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, introduced that Pan Mou went to many places to seek medical treatment at that time, and his condition was already very critical, and he had been inhaling oxygen at a high rate for more than 3 months, and his life was in danger at any time.

After many repeated matching, the lung source matching of the great love donor in Nanning, Guangxi Province, was successful. On April 17, 2021, an aerial relay of life was staged in Guizhou and Guangdong. The double lungs were transported from Nanning to Shenzhen, and then after about 20 minutes of helicopter airlift to the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, about 110 minutes before and after, which won a very valuable time for life rescue. After the lungs were transported to the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, the medical staff immediately performed a double lung transplant for Pan Bo. After 5.5 hours, with the injection of blood, the donor lungs gradually become rosy and begin to work normally.

"Postoperative breathing is a pleasure, preoperative breathing is a pain." This is a real experience when Pan Bo was discharged from the hospital last year. A year later, he said: "It was so painful, I once lost the confidence to live, I want to thank the great love donors and medical staff, who gave me a new life." Through my own experience, I would like to give a little encouragement to more unfortunate patients, hoping that they will live strongly and hope that they can also regain their lives. ”

"Thanks to the patient's trust, we can't express our joy at seeing him from his original dying and breathing difficulties to the current vitality." Organ transplants are the last line of defense for patients with end-stage organ failure, and it makes sense to be able to hold this last line of defense for patients like Panber. Reunited with Pan Bo and seeing his physical and mental health, Professor Cao Qingdong could not help but rejoice in his heart. (China Daily Guangdong Reporter Station)
