Ma Boyong's Recommendation: The Optimal Evolutionary Strategy of Folktales

When I read this book, I misjudged it twice in a row, which is really unforgiving.

The first time I got the book, I thought it was a writing guide like Robert McGee's The Story, completely ignoring its subtitle: "FolkTales in the X-Ray."

As the name suggests, the author made a slight crossover, using modern story theory to analyze traditional Chinese folk tales. This is nothing new. The analysis of the story structure, of course, can not avoid the various motifs and routines of folklore, all modern bridges, can find the roots from the ancient stories. Those who are interested can refer to Joseph Campbell's "Hero with a Thousand Faces".

But unexpectedly, when I was halfway through reading, I found that I had once again misjudged.

The author himself is a folklorist, so what he really wants to do in this book is not only to dissect a traditional story, but to raise this story and watch it grow and evolve.

The folklorist has this advantage, as he or she has a sufficient amount of classical literature and also collects a large amount of field material that is not on paper. Using these materials, it is possible to clearly observe a motif and kernel, how various variants are derived in the process of circulation, which variants can be tenaciously passed on to this day, which variants are quickly forgotten, and what is the law of survival of the fittest.

For example, there is an in-depth review of countless versions of the legend of Meng Jiang. You will find that the original folk imagination of Meng Jiangnu is really sideways and strange, and what kind of gods unfold. However, all the versions of Meng Jiangnu and Qin Shi Huang who eventually got together are almost short-lived, and do not constitute any influence of transmission at all, because it betrays the genes of the core of this story. This is an application of cultural meme theory, but it Chinese particularly intimate to read.

In the words of the author: "The structure of the story is both stable and growing, and in the seemingly disordered growth, there is always some optimal configuration and optimal ending." A specific problem always corresponds to a specific way of solving the problem. Every popular folktale is the best way to play in a particular language game. ”

So this book, in fact, is really about the optimal evolutionary strategy of folk tales. For modern authors, while sharpening their writing skills, they may also be able to refer to it.

DIG (Dig Out) is a slow film set in the darkest hours of Britain's Nazi invasion. Most of the British were preparing for the fortifications, and an archaeologist found an ancient ship in the manor of a rich widow at this time.

The urgency and anxiety of war, the slowness and refinement of archaeology, two very different states are intertwined, and the present and ancient times also intersect.

Jin Penghui's recommended words:

The mainland has made a major strategic deployment to achieve carbon peaking by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060, which will bring about a series of extensive and profound economic and social changes. What kind of theoretical paradigm should we use to analyze and judge this problem, and what kind of mechanism design should we use to construct the corresponding policy framework?

More than a decade ago, Zhou Xiaochuan was keenly aware of the importance of climate change and low-carbon economy, thought about these issues from the two dimensions of theory and practice, and gradually explored a set of carbon-neutral economic analysis models and policy frameworks, laying a framework for the development of green finance, and promoting the rapid start of domestic green finance.

This book collects Zhou Xiaochuan's many academic achievements in the fields of carbon neutrality, green finance and green governance from 2008 to 2021, and with its unique international vision, innovative thinking and advanced insights, it opens up rigorous academic thinking and complex policy formulation, not only presents a rigorous theoretical analysis framework of "general equilibrium with quotas", but also provides a practical path for how to promote emission reduction from both the supply and demand sides. This book also embodies Zhou Xiaochuan's "global view of carbon" pondered from the height of the community of human destiny, which is both lofty and nearly grounded, realizing the unity of scholarship and popularization, and is extremely readable. Both professionals and beginners can learn from the book, get inspiration, and then gather more wisdom and strength to achieve the "double carbon" goal.
