Although Ximen Qing is a villain, he behaves very manly, rescues Pan Jinlian from water and fire, pities Li Zhen'er and cherishes Jade, and finally has deep affection.
Compared with the decent figure Wu Song, he seems to prefer Ximen Qing.
Although it is a bit subversive of the three views, I have to admit that this is indeed the case.
My personal understanding, it is probably -
Wu Song's moral integrity could not hide the ignorance and pedantry in his thinking, which led to the involvement of many innocent people around him; Ximen Qing's moral stains and his fierce heart to do things could not hide some of the charms of his personality.
The interpretation of other supporting roles is also remarkable.
Ximen Qing's main room, Wu Yueniang, is the kindest person in the whole play.
Yue Niang endured all her life for Ximen Qing, and finally broke through the red dust and bid farewell to her husband, this paragraph is really too beautiful.
