On April 10, 2022, Matchroom took over the hosting of the second World Pool Championship at Milton Keynes. After reaching the final for the third time in his career, Shaun Van Bournin defeated Albin Oschun 13-6 to win the coveted World Pool Championship for the first time, becoming the third nine-goal world champion from the United States after Streenand and Archer.
The 128 contestants first competed in the double-elimination stage to determine the round of 64. Among them, Albin Oschun, Daren Abbotton, Joshua Feller, Ye Junwei, Ralph Sukui, Shane Van Bonin, Nils Fein, Zhang Ronglin, Ke Bingzhong, Alexander Kazakis, Naoyuki Oii, Xie Jiazhen and others were promoted by Katsube.
The well-known players who lost the promotion include Soston Hohmann, Wu Kunlin, Jason Shaw, Ke Bingyi, Ke Binghan and others, it is worth mentioning that the wife of German star Filler became the only female player to advance to the round of 64. David Alcaid, Taylor Steyer, Chris Merlin, Kelly Fisher and Billy Thorpe suffered a double defeat.
The single-loss stage began on the third matchday, when two rounds of matches were played and a number of classic battles were born. In the 64-32 match, Mario Ho won 11 consecutive sets to eliminate the only female player, Feller, by a score of 11-2. Hong Kong's Lo Ho-chen beat Khaki in a cold-beating manner. Ke Bingyi, Zhang Ronglin, Feller, Fan Boning, Ou Sichun and other masters all passed.
The 32-16 match followed, with Van Bonin winning eight consecutive sets at a 3-10 deficit to reverse the Finnish "Iceman" Imonen 11-10; Ke Bingyi took revenge by beating Jason Shaw 11-10 with a steady play in the decider. Hohmann beat Ke Binghan 11-4; homegrown star Alberton swept Lu Haochen 11-1. Zhang Ronglin scored 11-4 to easily eliminate Dutch "Terminator" Finn.
The fourth match was born after the final four. In the first half, the quarter-finals staged two world championship derbys. Austria's defending champion and world number one Oschun easily beat Hohmann 11-5, while Germany's One Brother Feller defeated British champion Alberton 11-10 after falling behind 8-10.
The two strongest players in Europe met in the quarter-finals, and Oschun opened 0-4 behind, tied 4-4, and won seven consecutive sets after falling behind 4-6, beating Feller again 11-6 to advance to the final four. Oschun's opponent in the semi-finals was Kuwait's dark horse player Abdullah Alyusef.
In the second half of the zone, the American god of war, Van Boning, was unique, first in the case of 4-7 behind, he rushed out of the gold 9, 11-8 reverse Ke Bingyi; then, Van Bonin used the same score to eliminate another pool strongman from Chinese Taipei, Zhang Ronglin. Van Bournin will face Greece's Kazaski in the semi-finals.
On the day of the final, the two halves were played first. Oschun beat Aryusev 11-3 to reach the final of the World Billiards Championship for two consecutive years. This was also the fourth time in his career that Oschun reached the final of the World Billiards Championship, surpassing Streenand to become the player who reached the final of the World Billiards Championship.
Van Bournin 11-7 Lecerka Zakis avenged last year's pool masters final by a 0-9 clean sheet. After the 2015 and 2016 consecutive finals, Van Bonin reached the final again after a gap of six years. It is worth mentioning that Van Berning played a goal rate of 2.3 goals per set in the single-defeat stage, which is a terrible figure in the game of triangle box swing.
The final took place between the two strongest players in Europe and the United States today. Oschun started with a 3-1 advantage, while Van Berning jumped on the No. 3 ball in the 4th set and began to counter-attack, 5-4. Osztony once tied 6-6, while Van Berning won seven straight sets to win 13-6 with Feller to win the title.
After reaching the final three times, Van Bonin finally won the coveted World Pool Championship and won a hefty $60,000 prize money, making his career flawless. After Earl Streenand and Johnny Archer, the United States finally produced its third 9-goal world champion after a gap of 20 years.
