Inscription: On a sunny Saturday afternoon, we crossed the Dutch border in search of the Oostelbeers-Oirschot, the "winning family" of the short and middle distance races in the south of the Netherlands. The brothers were farmers, all unmarried and living together. Turn right at the traffic light intersection and drive for a minute or two, smell a strong smell of cow dung, and their home and loft will arrive! Don't expect them to wear suits and ties and get their pigeons ready for their customers. They were always in overalls, or hurried back from the fields, with mud or oil on their hands to shake hands and welcome them. In LeiTeng's house, you can experience the simplicity of no falsehood!

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, we crossed the Dutch border in search of the "winning family" of the short-distance race Between Tilburg and Ejøfen in the south of the Netherlands, the Leitens Gebr., who competed under the name of the eldest brother Cor Leijtens!

The town of Oirschot only began to develop gradually in 1997, when the three towns of East Elbel, West Elbeers and Middelbeers merged to form a large city, and in 1959 the first female mayor took office and wrote a history. The three towns are known for their close proximity to two important agricultural and civil water supply channels, the Groote Breeze and the Kleine Breerze. The history of these three towns dates back to the 13th century, when the land division system was implemented equally. Life was often extremely hard in those days, and it was even more difficult for farmers in the region. They always work hard to cultivate, but the sandy farmland is poor, and it is difficult to get a good harvest! The unfavorable geographical conditions, coupled with poor transportation, have limited all activities and can only be carried out on a small scale.

Dutch Leiteng brothers and Belgian Jensen brothers

The historical development and the family life of the Leiten brothers are very similar, and they have also worked as very difficult farmers. In their father's day, there were only 6 cows in the stables. The four brothers expanded their farming range and now operate an ultra-modern dairy farm with an annual output of about 535,000 litres, while the four brothers still live on their parents' farm. When they were young, they wanted to find something other than hard work on the farm. At that time, however, there were no leisure activities in the area. The brothers Cor and Har came into contact with pigeon racing at the age of 16 and have been addicted ever since.

Over time, the Leiten brothers have also gradually become the "Dutch national short- and medium-distance superstars" (they participate in the Limoges race as far as 694 kilometers). Their nephews, the two sons of their married sister, Roland (17) and Sander (14), also joined the pigeon race and started racing under the name of the father's name Van Den Broeck Bros, and the prospects are promising!

The story of the Dutch Leiteng brothers and the world-famous Belgian Jensen brothers have many similarities: the Jensen brothers are also 4 brothers, also live in their parents' homes, are also unmarried, and only the only sister is married. The Leiten brothers attacked the city in the short and middle distance with the pigeons of the "Johnson Bottom" (quoted from Clark Klak). However, time and space are different, and the Leiten brothers of East Elbel seem to have more admirable points. First, the modern pigeon racing activities are getting more and more difficult, and the second is that as far as we know, the Belgian Brothers Jensen have never won a national ace pigeon award (supplement: of course, due to different time and space backgrounds), but the pigeons of the Leiten brothers have miraculously won the National Ace Pigeon Award several times as follows: 1st Nat. Strains

When the brothers Kohl and Hal first raised pigeons, they had nothing but to take care of a few pigeons, which were the main pigeons of their original breed. They have nothing and no one to turn to. Experience is the best teacher, they hesitate to take the first step in the pigeon racing career, and all the way with good "common sense" and reasonable "thinking", as well as the use of the knowledge gained in managing animals day after day, success is bound to be expected. Soon, the pigeon family of the Leiten brothers gradually made a name for themselves in the dutch short and middle distance. Even the powerful and powerful people who worked hard and stood on the national dragon and tiger list also paid attention to them and began to look for them, not only curious, but also wanted to find out the secrets behind their success.

At the same time, the brothers are well aware that the current pigeon family cannot take them to the next level. Soon, the 100% Jensen brothers Klak pigeons also moved to their loft, and more and more masters from the Netherlands Eddie Schalken, the Belgian Brothers Ingels, the Dutch Kaufmann, the Dutch Verbeli fathers and sons, the Dutch Walker fathers and sons and other masters were added. The Leiten brothers have a great respect for Schlaken, who is not only a good teacher and friend of their pigeons, but also the breeding pigeons of Schlaken who helped them to produce two world ace pigeons, Pentium =2e W.K.) and Lammert (50% Schlaken each). They also own two straight sons and one straight daughter of Kleine Dirk, a Kaufmann World Pigeon. One thing is indisputable: the Leiten brothers have laid a solid foundation in breeding, coupled with the use of good "common sense" and reasonable "thinking", their success is no fluke!

Cultivation method

The Leiten brothers currently have 24 breeding pairs and 52 old birds (30 cocks + 22 hens). No matter how popular the "total widowhood" system is, they still adhere to the "traditional widowhood" (fixed spouse) system to this day. That is to say, when the goes to the race, the mate hen stays in the shed and when the hen goes to the race, the mate stays in the shed. Two racing hens share a in order to create jealousy, which is a very important factor. In the past they had tried to breed the racing pigeons earlier and then immediately separate them from now on and no longer mate; but they made a slight adjustment on this basis: let the racing pigeons breed another litter before the start of the season, and then separate them again. The cocks are kept in nest boxes and the loft floor is covered with corn stalks. Corn stalks are as hard as bones and dust-free, ideal. The cocks don't see their hen companions before they go to the race, but the hens can see their companion for about 20 minutes before they go to the race. Basically, every racing pigeon goes to the race once a week!

The cocks train twice a day for one hour, while the hens train only once a day for about an hour and a half. In addition, the pigeons fly 30 km 2 to 3 times a week. Racing pigeons must be well trained and those who have reached the age of two and have not yet performed well will not be left behind. The truly "super" pigeons can race until the age of 3 before they can be rightfully transferred to the breeding loft. According to the brothers Cole and Hal, the benefits of this method cannot be scoffed at, and thanks to this method they have enough young pigeons and young breeders to use. The two brothers figured out the right path, and many top lofts in the Netherlands followed this method.

We may wonder how the pigeons can eat when they have to race every week during the season, or even go on an expedition to Limoges (close to 700 km)? The answer is: "high-fat feed". When we visited the racing and breeding lofts of the Leiten brothers, we noticed that their racing pigeons could eat a wide range of high-fat formulas from the Versaille brand. It's like a person who works very hard and has to eat enough calories to eat food, otherwise it won't last long. At the same time, the Leiten brothers do not forget other supplements, such as replenishing the indispensable iron in the blood of pigeons! The pigeons are fed twice a day, and the feed is mixed with vitamins once a week, and the feed is wet with some kind of oil. The Leiten brothers also follow the advice of the veterinarian: use drugs to prevent head disease every two weeks, as well as trichomoniasis prophylaxis. Don't forget the three elements of success: a good loft, a good breeding manager and, above all, good pigeons! The "National Ace Pigeon Team" in the loft of the Leiten Brothers vividly illustrates these three elements of success!
