The study was conducted with the assisting units (Hong Kong Chinese University, Shanghai Chest Hospital, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Cancer Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, ClevelandClinic, TuenMun Hospital, PopulationHealth Research Institute, ClevelandClinic and Medical University) jointly published the first robust clinical study on perioperative hypothermia outcomes.
The results showed that there was no significant difference between the outcome measures of intraoperative hypothermia (35.5 °C) and normal body temperature (37 °C), and mild hypothermia in surgical patients did not affect the occurrence of postoperative cardiovascular events, suggesting that intraoperative maintenance of patients' core body temperature was not less than 35.5 °C.
From March 27, 2017 to March 16, 2021, the study lasted four years and enrolled a total of 5,056 patients in 12 Chinese medical institutions and Cleveland Clinics in the United States. At the end of 2020, Dr. Liu Ruizhu and Dr. Chen Bing of the Department of Anesthesiology received one funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China Youth Project. In 2021, Dr. Chen Bing received a grant from the China Postdoctoral Fund, and the Department of Anesthesiology independently designed and publicly registered two large-sample clinical studies, and the relevant research is being carried out in an orderly manner.
