Manchester City are usually one of the clubs that spend the most every summer because they have enormous wealth. In the summer of 2021, they broke the UK transfer record to sign Glalish from Aston Villa for £100 million. They have also tried to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham, but have failed, and it is reported that they have tried to sign the England international four times. City are still vying for the Premier League and Champions League, but no matter how successful they are in the 2021-22 season, Guardiola remains as eager as ever to improve the team in any way possible. Here we look at each position of the Manchester City squad and determine who can arrive at the next transfer window. City's goalkeepers are well stocked. Ederson remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and Steffen is a trusted deputy.
Paul Torres
Paul Torres is a transfer favourite this summer, with Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Real Madrid all linked to him. Last summer, Tottenham reportedly bid 60 million euros for it. However, the player himself does not welcome any transfer and expresses a desire to play in the Champions League with his hometown club Villarreal. At the time he told British media: "It's more attractive to play in the Champions League with a team from my city (than moving to Tottenham)." I was clear from the beginning. This is only Villarreal's fourth time in the Champions League and it shows how tough it is to play with the club I have played all my life for, it's a dream. "Now that the dream of playing in the Champions League with Villarreal has come true, he may be willing to try a transfer.
Sergio Gomez
Sergio Gomez has grown into a good left-back at Anderlecht, although he has spent most of his career as an attacking midfielder. He can also play on the right. The Spaniard is a product of Barcelona's La Masia Academy, so he has a natural control over the ball and excellent passing ability, which is certainly the talent Guardiola needs. Crucially, he is equally adept at playing a role similar to Thatcello at right-back and left-back positions, which would give Guardiola another reliable option in those positions.
Chuamini
Chuamini's performance over the past 12 months has brought attention to every big club. Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid are all keeping a close eye on the Frenchman. City will be looking for such a player in the summer as a long-term replacement for Fernandinho. Chuamini is not a direct substitute as he is more of a B to B midfielder than the Brazilian, but Rodri is now in charge of that position and Chuamini could be placed on a higher offensive line.
Nkunku
Nkunku was in absolutely best shape last weekend, leading Leipzig to tear Borussia Dortmund apart. With 27 goals and 17 assists in 40 games in Leipzig this season, there will surely be plenty of clubs vying for his signing before the summer transfer window arrives. Manchester City are one such team, and although they already have enough talent in the attacking midfield position, Nkunku can play well in the centre-back, attacking midfield and even on the wing.
Harry Kane
Reports last summer showed City bidding up to £150 million to buy Harry Kane, but Tottenham kept rejecting their offers. Guardiola has revealed city have bid a total of four times for Kane and he is unsure how his team will perform if the England international does not move from Tottenham. "Now you can say, 'Harry Kane didn't come, everything went well', but I didn't know it at the time," the City boss said ahead of City's game against Tottenham in February. When this happens two, three, four times, it's all over. "The club does need a new striker, though, and that could be a choice between Kane or the next striker on our list.
Haaland
After playing for Borussia Dortmund over the past two seasons, Haaland has grown into one of the hottest players in world football. Despite suffering injuries in the 2021-22 season, he scored 23 goals in 20 starts in all competitions. He will be at the centre of the transfer battle, with every big club in Europe linked to the player. Recent reports suggest that Real Madrid and Manchester City are now leading the race for his signing. He has reportedly turned down Manchester City's huge contract of 28 million euros per season, but that doesn't mean City won't come up with a bigger contract.
Matthews-Franka
In South American football, especially in Brazil, there is no shortage of young prodigies known as the "next superstar". In a long list of potential superstars, the next to have this status is flamenco midfielder Matthews Franca. He is a product of the Flamenco Academy and he made his baccalaureate debut against Santos last December. Franka has only made a few appearances in the league so far, but his performances in the Brazilian youth team have been impressive in the youth team and international competitions. The club most recently associated with Franka is Manchester City. According to Brazilian media reports, the Premier League giant is preparing to offer flamenco "a truckload" of cash in order to sign the talented midfielder.
Leo
Rafael Leo became one of the most exciting young talents in Serie A in the 2021-2022 season. Leo has long been considered a future superstar, and when AC Milan spent €23 million to sign 20-year-old Leo from Lille in 2019, he was labeled "Portugal Mbappe". He has scored 11 goals and six assists in all competitions this season. Guardiola admires his all-round ability to be neutral.
