Everyone has their own story

Sadness or joy or helplessness

You are not in contact

Then you will never know the people who have passed by

Something in the heart

There was no sigh in the windows with the lights on

These Ukrainians, who also had a decent life, also had a decent life

They left their homes

They are optimistic and kind

They came to Cyprus with their suitcases

They want to have a computer and their children can take online lessons

They want to have new friends to play with their children

Language barrier, see us

They stretched out their hands in a genuine embrace

They said they wanted to go back to their hometown!

……

Overview of the previous situation

  • In early March 2022, due to the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Ukrainian people arrived in Cyprus for refuge. According to official Cypriot statistics, 15,000 Ukrainians had arrived in Cyprus for asylum as of the beginning of April!
  • On March 10, many fans and companies in the Chinese community took the initiative to inform the Serb Island Homeland that they were willing to help Ukrainians who had taken refuge in Cyprus and were willing to donate clothes, food, accommodation, and jobs. We have learned that Chinese families in Cyprus have provided accommodation for Ukrainian asylum seekers, and enthusiastic Chinese overseas Chinese have donated more than 1,000 euros to Ukrainian asylum families!
  • On March 12, 22 Ukrainian asylum seekers from Cyprus contacted their homes on the island for help, hoping to obtain some clothes and shoes, children's stationery, and the cost of buying computer online lessons for their children.
  • On March 14, the Sai Island Homeland Platform published an article to solicit caring people online.
  • On April 3, four volunteers from the Serboa Island Homeland brought four truckloads of supplies donated by caring people from Nikesia, Limasso and Paphos to the Ukrainian community in Ayia Napa to complete the handover ceremony.

Our donation was made to 22 Ukrainians (including 7 children) who had taken refuge in Cyprus. Most of them come from Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, but also from places such as Melitopol.

(Note: On February 26, 2022, the Russian Defense Ministry issued an announcement that the Russian military has full control of the Ukrainian city of Melitopol.) )

1) They are currently admitted by a Ukrainian in Cyprus and are staying in their hotel in Cyprus, where they can stay temporarily due to the current peak tourist season in Cyprus.

2) Although the temporary accommodation conditions are acceptable, they have basically lost all sources of income, many families can not even afford to buy clothes and shoes, materials are scarce, and children's stationery is not equipped.

3) Of the current 7 children, the youngest is only 6 years old.

Since they do not speak Greek and know too much English, there are 3 school-age students who need to take classes at the Seyi English School, and the tuition fee is 500 euros / month. Older children, Ukrainian schools offer online classes, they are conducting online classes in Cyprus, they hope that if they have a computer, they can start online classes...

They need supplies and hope to make new friends in Cyprus. The kids are looking forward to having new friends to play with them!

They said the Chinese community had donated so much supplies this time that they would also give some of it to other Ukrainians who came to the island. They will try their best to make every donation useful!

Some Chinese volunteers suggested that in the later stage, Chinese families and Ukrainian families could be organized to hold networking activities. Summer is coming, get together, And Chinese and Ukrainian children can also form new friendships.
