What's it like to watch a movie on the Bund? On October 23, "Igor Solo Exhibition: Narration with Images" opened at The Bund 18 Kushi Art Space. With the opening of this exhibition, the film "5 is the Most Perfect Number", which won the Director and Script Award of the Italian Film Federation in 2019, was also released in the Image Hall of Jiushi Art Space.
This year, from 19 to 25 October, is the 20th World Italian Language Week. World Italian Week is an international cultural event founded in 2001 by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Chaff Society. The event is mainly dedicated to the promotion of the Italian language and the classical and contemporary culture behind it.
The theme of this year's Italian Week is "Italian in Words and Images: Graffiti, Illustration, Comics". Within this framework, the art exhibition "Igor Solo Exhibition: Narration with Images" was launched in Shanghai.
Born in 1958, Igor is one of the most important comic book authors in the Italian comic book industry, as well as a musician, director, and experimenter, whose career and artistic creation have had a profound impact on the evolution and development of Italian comics.
Curated by Professor Paula Bristolt, the exhibition is divided into four themed sections: "Black Comics from Naples to New York", "Biographical Novels", "Historical Novels" and "Memory Routes", and exhibits 11 groups of comic works, which together construct Igor's highly stylized artistic vein. Regardless of the genre of work such as black comics, biographical novels, historical novels or diary essays, Igor can use different artistic techniques and narrative styles to express his attitudes and opinions clearly and clearly.
The exhibition does not take time as the main line, but constructs a narrative framework based on the trajectory of the artist's development in painting and literature. Around the story that the author wants to tell, the curators have curated a long visual group to present the overall context of the story. At the same time, the audience can also carefully appreciate the details of each painting and taste the layout and composition of the work. The format is made in accordance with the size and proportions used by the author at the beginning of the creation, and the viewer can intuitively see what the work looked like before it was printed and published.
In addition to exhibiting a selection of comic content, the film "5 is the Perfect Number" is presented live. In recent years, Igor has ventured into the field of film directing, directing his original graphic novel "5 is the Perfect Number" with the same name. The film participated in the 2019 Venice Day (parallel unit of the main competition of the Venice Film Festival) and the Pingyao International Film Festival. Valerie Gaulino, the actress of the film, won the Italian Film David Award and the Italian Film Silver Ribbon Award for her outstanding performance in the film.
This exhibition is also the second exhibition of foreign artists launched by The Kushi Museum of Art in one month. In the future, Jiushi Art Museum will not only continue its important mission as a platform for the research, display, dissemination and promotion of Haipai's outstanding culture and art, but also further uphold the purpose of "starting from the Bund, basing on Shanghai, and focusing on the world", and serve the society and the public with more wonderful cultural projects and artistic creations.
