Recently, NTT, a major Japanese operator, announced the launch of a new service brand "NTT XR" with XR as the core, which will integrate and provide a complete set of XR services and solutions.
It is understood that the company defines XR as "extended reality, which is a general term for VR/AR/MR" and merges the XR-related services and solutions that have been developed by NTT Group companies into "NTT XR".
To date, NTT has been involved in a variety of individual or corporate XR projects, whether hardware, software or services, including working with Japanese property developer Mori Mansions to demonstrate ar and digital twins, selling Magic Leap 1 MR devices in Japan, and working with front-line manufacturers to promote AR remote collaboration.
NTT said NTT XR will support a wide range of applications such as entertainment, tourism, education, industry and commerce, and for enterprise customers, NTT XR will develop and provide services such as remote meetings, on-site work support, training, marketing, education and tourism. NTT XR also plans to introduce cloud rendering technology and other services into the service.
At the same time as the NTT XR service was announced, NTT also launched the multi-device compatible meta-universe service XR World. It is reported that XR World is a free service, which features support for custom avatars, allowing users to experience social networking in a virtual space, as well as music, anime, dance and other content. In addition, we will collaborate with musicians and artists to host events at XR World. From 2023, the service will be expanded from Japan to overseas.
