In 2000, Crawford was selected by the Cavaliers with the eighth overall pick and began his career with a trade to the Bulls, playing for the Bulls, Knicks, Warriors, Hawks, Trail Blazers, Clippers, Timberwolves, Suns and Nets.

Throughout his 20-year career, he has won three best sixth-man, one best teammate, and one best of the week. He made 1,327 career appearances (20th all-time), 19,419 career points (61st all-time), 4,541 assists (86th all-time) and 2,221 three-pointers (8th all-time). He averaged 14.6 points, 2.2 boards and 3.4 assists per game, shooting 41 percent from the field, 34.8 percent from three-point range and 86.2 percent from the free throw line. He averaged 20.6 points per game in a single season.

In the 2009–10 season, Crawford, who played for the Hawks, won the Best Sixth Man award for the first time. In the 2013-14 season, he won the award again at the Clippers, becoming the first player in the NBA to receive the honor for a different team. In the 2015-16 season, he continued to work hard to become the first player in NBA history to win the best sixth man award three times.

On April 10, 2019, Crawford finished with 51 points, five rebounds and five assists, surpassing Jordan to become the oldest player in NBA history to score 50+ points at the age of 39 years and 20 days. At the same time, it was Crawford's fourth team to score 50+ points.
