In 2000, at the age of 37, Yang Jia was admitted to the Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University in the United States to pursue a master's degree in public administration, becoming the first foreign blind student to receive an MPA degree since the founding of Harvard University 300 years ago, the first person in Chinese mainland to receive the Harvard Kennedy School Alumni Achievement Award, and the first vice chairman of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in China's history.
