The advantages of the film are outstanding: it has the warm characteristics common in Japanese films, the structure is rigorous, and the narrative is not driven by the plot, which is very experimental. With this film, Ryusuke Hamaguchi has won a number of "Best Director" awards, and has gradually entered the field of vision of global film fans; this year's Oscars, "Driving My Car", even if it does not win the best film, it is likely to win the best foreign language film.
West End Story made Spielberg the first director to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture in every era from the 1970s to the 2020s.
