Coin Appreciation - Five Generations Later Liang Qianhua Qiankao

In recent years, in the ancient coins excavated from the Liaoning gold cellar in Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang and other places, a very small amount of Qianhua copper coins may occasionally be found, and the Qianhua Yuanbao, Qianhua Tongbao Xiaoping Copper Coins and Qianhua Tongbao Folded Three Copper Coins have been seen, as shown in (Figure 1), (Figure 2), and (Figure 3). Is this type of money the year money? For whom? The chronicles are not recorded, and the existing numismatic books and genealogies are not recorded, so it became a mystery for a while.

Consulting the "Brief Chronology of Chinese History", it is learned that in history, only five generations later, Zhu Wen, the grandfather of Liang, changed the era name of Yuan Qianhua (911-912) after Kaiping (907-911), while the last emperor Zhu Huan did not change the Yuan immediately after succeeding to the throne, and continued to use the Qianhua era name for three years (913-915). From this point of view, the Qianhua Yuan (Tong) treasure money is most likely the era name money minted by Zhu Wen, the grandfather of Later Liang, or the late emperor Zhu Yan. As we all know, in 907 AD, Zhu Wen destroyed the Tang, usurped the throne, changed the name of the country to Liang, Jianyuan Kaiping, and Kaifeng, known in history as Hou Liang. The excavated coins have proved that Zhu Wen minted Kaiping Yuan (Tong) treasure coins during the Kaiping period (907-911), and saw a variety of layouts such as Xiaoping, Fold Two, Fold Three, Fold Five, Fold Ten, etc. The face text is rotated, the body of the book is between the li and the true, the gestures are free from the ancient clumsiness, and the shape is regular and majestic. Among them, The small flat money is called yuanbao and tongbao, the folded three coins are called tongbao, and the folded five and ten coins are called yuanbao, which is extremely rare in existence.

And the fine view (Figure 1), (Figure 2), (Figure 3) shows the QianhuaYuan (Tong) treasure money, the face text is rotated, the book body is also between the li and the true, the pen is strong, the words are deep and thick, the casting is regular, and it is quite open and flat. According to this, the author believes that the Qianhua Yuan (Tong) treasure money was minted by Zhu Wen, the grandfather of Later Liang. Although the last emperor Zhu Yan continued to use the Qianhua era number for three years, it was unlikely that he would mint the Qianhua year number money. (Figure 2) Qianhua Tongbao Xiaoping copper coin shown, diameter 23.3mm, Guo thickness 1.8mm, weight 4.7 grams. (Figure 3) Qianhua Tongbao folded three copper coins, 31.8mm in diameter, 2.6mm in thickness, weighing 13.6 grams. All the above money is hidden by the author.
