In the studio of the Dehua Feitian Ceramics Research Institute, Zheng Xiongpeng, sitting in front of the operation case, often concentrated on turning himself into a "sculpture" - engaged in ceramic sculpture creation for nearly 30 years, which is his normal work: for seven or eight hours, only his carving knife and focused eyes are active.

Compared with the title of "Representative Inheritor of Dehua Porcelain Firing Techniques at Fujian Provincial Level", Zheng Xiongpeng prefers to state his achievements in the past 20 years of studying art with Su Qinghe, a master of Dehua contemporary ceramic art and a national master of arts and crafts. In the porcelain capital, the passing on of porcelain carving skills and humanistic atmosphere has enabled him to gradually understand the essence of the art of "He Pai" and "Su Shi", integrate his own wisdom and ideas into his creation, and gradually form his own unique style.

Learn from the master and focus on tradition

In the exhibition hall of the Feitian Ceramics Research Institute, there is a striking porcelain sculpture "Guanyin on the Phi Seat". This Guanyin, the characters look peaceful, the clothes are naturally flowing, giving the viewer a sense of beauty and meaning from the outside in, showing Zheng Xiongpeng's strong technical level. In 2009, he observed the original "Guanyin of the Cloak Seat" by the Ming Dynasty master He Chaozong in the Forbidden City, and germinated the inspiration for copying.

"He Chaozong is a Dehua porcelain saint, and traditional porcelain carvers have copied his works. Because the production of ceramics is affected by various factors, coupled with the spirit and thought of different authors, the inner charm of the copied works is also very different. Zheng Xiongpeng said.

After more than two years of creation, Zheng Xiongpeng's "Guanyin of the Phi Seat" has undergone more than 60 revisions, and he has also asked his master Su Qinghe to guide him in the middle of the way, and finally became one of his representative works of traditional porcelain carving. Guanyin, Arhat, Maitreya... For more than 20 years, Zheng Xiongpeng has created hundreds of traditional ceramic sculptures, from gods and Buddha statues, ancient and modern figures to utensils and utensils, although the subject matter is all-encompassing, but most of them are inseparable from the word "traditional".

Because of his association with porcelain since childhood, the "traditional" blood is deeply rooted in him. "When I was a child, when my father worked in the First Factory of Dehua Ceramics, I often followed him in and out of the porcelain factory, and saw many traditional porcelain carvings such as Guanyin and Maitreya created by old artists, which were so vivid and vivid. I was thinking, how nice it would be if I could make a work like this too! Zheng Xiongpeng recalled.

Under the influence of the ears, the dream that I had set up since childhood soon sprouted. In 1992, at the age of 16, Zheng Xiongpeng entered the Ceramics Major of Dehua Technical School. Three years later, as soon as he graduated, he and his brother Zheng Xiongwei founded the Dehua Feitian Ceramics Research Institute, and the road of ingenuity began.

In order to establish the Feitian Ceramics Research Institute, Zheng Xiongpeng's father entrusted him to Suqinghe and asked him to serve as the technical adviser of the institute. In Dehua at the end of the 1990s, although there were only a few people engaged in the creation of traditional "He Pai" porcelain carvings, the older generation of artists did not hesitate to give guidance to the younger generation. As a representative figure in the contemporary ceramic industry of Dehua, Su Qinghe is good at ceramic sculpture and proficient in a series of comprehensive techniques such as the configuration of ceramic raw materials up to firing. Under the careful guidance of Su Lao, Zheng Xiongpeng's ceramic production skills have improved by leaps and bounds, and he has trained a superb porcelain carving technique.

"Phi Zhao Guanyin", "Fuhui Guanyin", "Great Wisdom View of Freedom", "Great Life Star"... Over the years, on the basis of deeply understanding and grasping the essence of the "He Pai" and "Su Family", Zheng Xiongpeng has integrated his own artistic concepts, created thousands of series of works on various themes, and won awards in national, provincial and ministerial professional appraisals for many times, and dozens of works are collected by major museums and treasures.

Love to fly, implant culture

In the National Industry Occupation (Ceramic Industry) Skills Competition held at the end of last year, Zheng Xiongpeng won the first place in the Ceramic Sculpture Worker (Occupational Work) Competition with his work "Building Dreams".

The winning of the work is inseparable from the integration and implantation of cultural elements. "'Building Dreams' takes the flying figures and the auspicious cloud base as the main body, and integrates Chinese symbols such as the Great Wall and the Shenzhou spaceship into the clothing ornaments, and expresses the cultural element of the 'flying sky', the land Silk Road, through the cultural carrier of the Maritime Silk Road, 'Dehua porcelain carving'." Zheng Xiongpeng introduced.

In the exhibition hall of the Feitian Ceramics Research Institute, visitors will find that many works such as "Feitian", "Rebound Pipa", "Shengshi Qingyin" and so on are related to the theme of "Feitian". The fluttering dresses, flying ribbons, and soaring forms all give people a sense of immortality, and also make people feel that Zheng Xiongpeng has a special love for flying culture.

"Feitian is a unique traditional cultural element of China, I like to study the skills of Feitian culture and traditional ceramic sculpture, and through the integration and symbiosis of Feitian culture and ceramic art creation, enrich the creative connotation of ceramic art with the long history of 'Feitian'." Zheng Xiongpeng said.

In order to combine Dehua ceramics with Dunhuang Feitian art, Zheng Xiongpeng made a special trip to the Dunhuang Research Institute to study and exchange, and asked the researchers of the Dunhuang Research Institute for advice. After years of research and exploration, Zheng Xiongpeng has created and designed hundreds of feitian works, and his feitian theme porcelain sculpture is unique and has formed its own unique style: with smooth lines, the contrast between virtual and real and the exaggerated form of decoration, the flexible and beautiful rhythm of the flying sky, the power of soaring upwards, and the image of the flying art with beautiful meaning, beautiful shape and elegant posture.

Based on the history and culture of Dehua ceramics, Zheng Xiongpeng has also developed and created dozens of series of ceramic art treasures such as Feitian condensed jade porcelain carving, Feitian blue and white porcelain, Feitian underglaze color, and Feitian Royal Crystal porcelain. "Dehua ceramic sculpture culture is broad and profound, I will continue to deeply cultivate traditional ceramic sculpture, do a good job in the 'He Pai' style of Dehua traditional porcelain carving, and carry forward the craftsmanship inheritance of my master Su Qinghe." Zheng Xiongpeng said.
