Photography was first invented in 1837, and for decades photography has been black and white. Although color film was introduced in the early 20th century, black-and-white photographs were still popular in the 60s and 70s.

Artist Mario Anger spent hours painstakingly converting old black-and-white photographs of these celebrities into color versions. A bridge was built between the past and the present, making these old photographs look like they were taken recently.

Monroe remains a very important figure in modern American pop culture, even today, nearly 60 years after her untimely death at the age of 36.

Contrary to popular belief, Mickey Mouse was not an effort by Disney alone: everyone's favorite talking mouse was created for Disney by Ubud Iwox. However, Everex thought he didn't get enough trust, so he left the company for a while. He eventually returned, but refused to work as an animator again.

This photograph of Disney, from the Library of Congress, along with 400 other photographs, was donated to the Harris and Ewing Collection.

The two collaborated on the 1956 film High Society, which eventually became her last film due to Kelly's royal obligations (she married Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956). Jazz icon Armstrong played himself in the film, appearing with his real-life band.

Che Guevara was an Argentine rebel who gained a following through the Cuban Revolution and overthrew the Cuban government with the Castro brothers.

Mark Twain is one of the greatest novelists in American history, and his most famous work is The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and its sequel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Unger used a photograph from the author's 1907, which was taken 3 years before his death in 1910.

Twain was born in 1835, when Halley's Comet was passing through Earth. And a year before he died, he predicted that when the comet returned in 1910, he would die — and he did. He died of a heart attack the day after Halley's Comet approached Earth.

Comedy duo Laurel and Hardy became popular in the 1920s — they shot it 30 years later in 1953

Laurel and Hardy still have legions of fans around the world. Many of these fans are members of a group called The Sons of The Desert, which is named after the duo's 1933 film Children of the Desert.

The photograph was taken in February 1947, when the two comedians arrived in Southampton, England, preparing to board the Queen Elizabeth ocean liner.

This photo is of Maud Wagner, the first female tattoo artist in the United States.

Wagner was born in 1877. Before meeting her future husband, Gus, she performed aerial acrobatics at the circus, after which he taught her how to get a tattoo. The two have participated in circus shows and vaudeville shows across the country, and today Wagner is regarded as one of the greatest female icons in the tattoo industry.

Albert Einstein was one of the most famous scientists in history

Einstein's most famous contribution to science was the theory of relativity, which became one of the pillars of modern physics. He invented it in 1905, when he was only 26 years old. 16 years later, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics.

The photograph was taken in 1946, when Einstein was 67 years old.

Released two years after the release of the novel of the same name, the film is widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, and this is in large part because Ofke played the patriarch of the Finch family in the film.

This is the around 1880 writer Victor Hugo, whose most famous works are Les Misérables and The Freak of the Clock Tower.

Hugo is one of the most prolific writers in French history. Les Misérables was adapted into a highly successful Broadway musical and a feature-length film starring Hugh Jackman and many A-list stars.

Another of his famous works, The Bell Tower Freak, was adapted into a Disney animated film and is often referred to as one of the best films of "The Mouse House."

This photo was taken by photographer Étienne Carjat. In addition to photography, Carjat is a journalist and cartoonist.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the photo was taken in 1926, when the inventor was 63 years old. That same year, Ford became one of the first companies to work 5 days a week, 40 hours a week for its factory workers.
