The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) is a large teachers' union in the United States, which, according to its official website, was founded in 1916 and is affiliated with the American Federation of Labor and the Confederation of Industrial Unions (AFL–CIO), the largest trade union organization in the United States, with more than 3,000 local branches and a total of 1.7 million members.
Many prominent American personalities have been members of the AFT, including the famous philosopher, educator, and psychologist John Dewey, the physicist Albert Einstein, and the 38th Vice President of the United States, Hubert Humphrey.
In the international context of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the AFT, like many other Western organizations, stands for Ukraine. On March 15, local time, the AFT Twitter account tweeted that on the same day, AFT employees and other union members participated in the "International Day of Solidarity with Ukraine" to express support for the Ukrainian community and the Ukrainian workers and families affected by the war.
Under the tweet, AFT also posted a photo of staff holding the Ukrainian flag, a solidarity pictorial and a union emblem.
But then, some sharp-eyed netizens found that there was an error in this photo: the color of the solidarity pictorial in the hands of some staff was yellow and blue, which was in stark contrast to the Ukrainian flag held by the people next to them.
Some people couldn't help but taunt: "You can't even get the Ukrainian flag (color) right, or shut down this space-wasting organization." "Haha! Another idiot who doesn't know that the Ukrainian flag (color) is upside down..."
However, AFT did not seem to notice the problem, and about half an hour after the tweet was posted, the pictorial newspaper, which was pointed out by netizens as wrong, appeared again in another tweet.
In the tweet, AFT wrote: "Randi Weingarten, president of the American Teachers Union, and Evelyn DeJesus, executive vice president, stood with Ukraine. ”
The picture is clearly visible, the color of the Ukrainian pictorial held by the two men is yellow and blue, with the slogan "We stand with Ukraine" printed on it, a white dove symbolizing peace stands on the yellow-blue color junction of the pictorial, and the lower right is printed with the abbreviation "AFL–CIO" of the American Federation of Labor and the Confederation of Industrial Trade Unions.
