The Celtics' 92-95 defeat to the Lone Ranger at home made Garnett's jersey retirement ceremony a bit of a fly in the pan. After the game, Kevin Garnett's No. 5 jersey was raised at TD North Shore Garden Arena, the 23rd retired jersey in Celtic team history.
One of the finest big forwards in NBA history, Garnett was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame last year, where he played for the Celtics for six seasons from 2007 to 2013 and helped the team win the 2008 NBA championship.
"I'm honored and thankful that my numbers were able to retire from this great team," Garnett said. "I will always have great respect and gratitude to the Celtics, Danny Angie, Rivers, my former teammates!"
Numerous Celtic legends, celebrities and Garnett's former teammates came to the jersey retirement ceremony. The members who came to the scene to win the championship in 2008 were: Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, James Posey, Eddie House, Kendrick Perkins, Brian Scarablin, Tony Allen, Leon Bowie and Glenn Davis. Former general manager Danny Angie also came to the scene.
Many people were concerned about whether Ray Allen, who had a festival with Garnett, would come to the ceremony, but Gentleman Ray still came.
