Starting from 6:00 a.m. local time on the 12th, cars of more than 3.5 tons are banned from the capital Attica Region; the highway with a total length of 510 kilometers between Thessaloniki and the capital Athens is also prohibited from cars of more than 3.5 tons in two sections, with a length of more than 80 kilometers. In addition, on the 12th, the railway between Athens and Thessaloniki was suspended. In the afternoon, the northeast of the Attica Peninsula, where Athens is located, received heavy snowfall, and lamia, a transportation hub 210 kilometers north of Athens, had suffered extensive snowfall for the previous 8 hours, coupled with the impact of low temperature frost, the railway tracks were damaged in many places and had to be urgently repaired.
