My fever life six: small investment and big return, less than two yuan of resistance, actually brought about a big change

author:Not too much hifi concerts

In this issue we continue to talk about some things about resistance, today and to share with you is a very humble antique carbon core resistance, the price is very cheap, there are some sellers for less than two dollars, but the quality is very good. After dealing with the power supply, it is back to the internal parts adjustment process. Because it is serialized, new friends can read the previous articles, the content can be connected, and the information is more complete. New and old friends are also welcome to follow, like and retweet.

My fever life six: small investment and big return, less than two yuan of resistance, actually brought about a big change

In this issue we returned to resistors, and the protagonist is Riken RM resistors. Please take a look at the picture below, is it very familiar? Looks a lot like an AB resistor, right? But it is not an AB resistor in the United States, it is a riken from Japan. I have also bought AB resistors before, until yesterday, I found out that the AB resistors I bought before were actually mixed with several Riken RM resistors. It is difficult to distinguish from the appearance and needs to be compared in detail. How to distinguish between AB resistance and Riken resistance, I will not say more here, because I have not done a good comparative study, after sufficient information, I will post to share with you. Although the appearance of these two resistors is similar, the sound performance is still different, so it is still meaningful to distinguish them.

Why can't I wait to share this time? Because this resistor surprised me so much. This resistor I use in a place where I am not very sure, friends who understand technology may wish to help see what the role of this link is. This position uses only a resistance of 1 ohm, a power of 3W, and is connected to the output of the ox secondary 0, that is, the negative pole of the horn line. At the other end it interfaces with a potentiometer and ammeter that monitors and adjusts the bias current. I personally estimate that this place is related to monitoring deflection, and the effect on sound should be minimal. But why would I change it? Because when I was looking for the cathode resistance, I just saw this resistance of the Riken resistance, the price is very cheap, one less than 2 yuan, a temporary itch, I bought it back to try.

After replacement

I used to be in a resistance test article, I also read the evaluation of this resistance, that article is written very carefully, I highly recommend to everyone, in Baidu search "audition twenty fever resistors" should be able to find the article. This article is excerpted from "Sound World", which is a high-quality audio magazine, I began to read and collect this magazine in the 90s, of course, it has also been "poisoned" a lot. The author does not know which one, the author uses different resistors in a very sensitive link: the input signal isolates this position, so its evaluation is very informative. I excerpt this passage about Riken RM resistors to share with you so that it can be compared with my actual hearing.

"The RM carbon film resistance sound is also soft and detailed, the tone is warmer, and the sound quality is softer. The distribution of volume sense is more average and the low frequency band volume sense is rich, but the analysis power is general, the strength and weakness are generally compared, and the scoring ability of particularly weak signals is more general. The thickness of the overall sound is pleasing due to the abundance of volume. In terms of soundstage performance, because the sound is softer and the cohesion is not very high, the stereoscopic sense of audio and video and the separation of levels are slightly weaker, but the depth of the soundstage is good. The sound is mainly comfortable, and the texture of the sound is not emphasized. ”

The above paragraph is excerpted from "Audition of Twenty Fever Resistors", the author is unknown.

This evaluation is already very comprehensive, but in my system, the sound is still a little different, and my evaluation can also be supplemented. First of all, I want to make it clear that different resistors have different personalities, but connecting the same resistor to different machines, or even to different positions in the same machine, the sound will be different, of course, the overall personality is still the same. The systems I use are: British Music Fax TUBALOG Gall Decoding, Domestic Obertech R5.5MK2 300B Combined Bile Machine (Has Been Motorized), British Sbender BC2 BBC Monitor Speaker.

Back to the point, how does Riken Resistance's sound perform? When I changed the resistor to turn on the sound, what made me "shine in front of my ears" was its very rounded sound, whether it was a violin or a human voice, which had a very lubricating sound. As I reviewed above, its sound is very warm, it sounds very approachable, and it is not as untamed as the Japanese National Treasure Resistor I used in other links, and it needs to be tamed. Insert a message here, Riken's RM resistor and national treasure resistance, used together should be very matched, Riken's run can be well complemented by the beautiful high frequency of the national treasure resistance. After replacing this resistor, the sound balance has not changed too obviously, indicating that its sound balance is still good, and it is very consistent with the above test. Regarding the meticulousness of the resistor, the evaluation said that its meticulousness is good, and I also feel the same way, it is quite meticulous. But it is also relative, relative to the national treasure resistance, its detail is still slightly lacking; compared to the ordinary carbon film resistance I replaced, its fineness is better. The above mentioned are all good aspects, of course, it is also a deficiency, as mentioned in the evaluation, its strength and weakness comparison in general, especially the ability to portray weak signals, which my sense of hearing is also consistent. Although its voice is rounded, it is a little blunt, a little less aura, and unlike the national treasure resistance, the sound is vivid. The kneading of the strings on the violin, the exchange of fingers in the guitar, and the extension of the high-pitched overtones in the piano all reflect its weak signal contrast. Assuming that you use a lot of Riken RM resistors in your machine, this performance is even more prominent, and the sound of the whole machine will become very slow, impermeable, and the analysis is not good. But if you only use one or two, you can also bring some positive complementarity, especially for some modern parts, plus it will have a lot of positive help. Finally, I will also talk about the differences from the review articles. The review mentions that the low frequency sense of this resistor is rich, but on my side, I don't think its low frequency sense is rich. If we borrow some geometry to assist, we think of the low-frequency sense of richness as a positive triangle, then the sound after using this resistor is an isosceles triangle with an inner angle of the bottom side greater than 60 degrees. This may be related to the equipment used in the above author's review, the test system used by the author is the French MICROMEGA PREMIUM20 20-bit CD player, the Marantz MODEL66 combined bile machine, the British Jazz (ROGERS) LS3/5A speaker and the American TAD TSM-300 small model angle monitor. The low frequency of 35A is originally a short board that needs to be "done". The Pioneer TSM-300 is also a small-caliber box, the smallest bookshelf box in the TAD, and the low frequency must also be limited. Therefore, it is not particularly sensitive to low-frequency tests in the evaluation. All in all, such an affordable resistance, the sound shown so durable, can make people listen to music quietly, is already very recommended.

Of course, given the price of Riken RM resistors, we can't be particularly harsh on it. It is also because of its low price and makes such a wonderful sound, I can't help but immediately post a recommendation to everyone. If friends have higher requirements, you can consider Riken's RMG resistance, blue shell, I believe its quality will be better. I estimate that there will be a big improvement in the delicacy and the portrayal of weak signals, but its value will be more than ten times higher. In the future, I also want to buy two pairs of RIKEN RMG resistors to use on the cathode, and then post to share after testing. So far today, I hope this article is useful to you. New and old friends are also welcome to follow, like and retweet. There are more tips to share, including some flat and positive equipment tests, which we will see in the next issue.
