Since last year, the domestic corn price has continued to rise, the highest price per kilogram once broke through 1.5 yuan, and the rising market stimulated farmers' enthusiasm for planting corn. Coupled with the fact that the state attaches great importance to food security and has repeatedly stressed the need to do a good job in grain production, the area planted with corn this year will increase significantly.

At present, as the huanghuaihai corn production area has ushered in the wheat harvest, summer corn planting has also begun. When visiting the countryside, the three farmers learned that many peasant friends were busy sowing corn in the wheat field, but the wheat with serious lodging could only be sown after the wheat harvest.

Some of the spring maize planted earlier grown and look very good. As the saying goes: "Three points are in the seed, seven points are in the tube". Regarding the management of corn, it is still important to determine the yield of the later stage. At the beginning of this year, the National Agricultural Technology Center organized experts from scientific research, teaching and promotion units to analyze and consult on the trend of major crop diseases and pests in 2021. It is expected that in 2021, a class of crop diseases and insect pests will recur, among which the grassland moth, grassland borer, armyworm and other diseases and insect pests will pose a safety risk to more than 70% of the production areas of corn and other food crops, and timely and effective measures need to be taken to prevent and control them.

The following two pests that are more harmful to corn growth should be well controlled.

One is the meadow moth. The area of insects seen in the country is 40 million mu, and the occurrence area involves the Huanghuai Sea and the corn planting area south of China, and the area south of the Yangtze River accounts for 80%. Among them, the southwest and south China occur in many generations and to a heavy extent, the middle and lower reaches of the Jiangnan and Yangtze Rivers can reach moderate occurrence, the Jianghuai, Huanghuai, Northwest, and North China are light and below, and the southeast and northeast may occur sporadically.

The second is armyworms. The national occurrence area is 75 million mu, and the corn armyworm accounts for more than 80%. Among them, the occurrence area of first-generation armyworm is 10 million mu, mainly in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Jianghuai and southern Huanghuai wheat areas are light; the second and third generations of armyworm occurrence areas are 40 million mu and 25 million mu, respectively, mainly in Huanghuai, North China and Northeast Maize production areas, moderate occurrence, local areas of weeds, humidity field blocks are heavy, northwest and southwest regions may appear high-density spots, rice, millet and other crops may be affected.

In this case, it is about to be broken

Today, leaving aside the control of corn pests and diseases, the focus is on a common problem in corn management. That is the corn "yazi" broken or not?

Corn "yazi", that is, the excess tillers of corn, also known as corn branches. Why does corn produce excess tillers? It is said that it is related to factors such as varieties, planting methods, pests and diseases, fertilization, climate, etc., but what is the reason? No one can tell. The opinion of the three farmers is that it has a greater relationship with individual varieties, because in actual production, the excess tillers of some corn varieties are obviously more serious than other varieties.

Corn "yakuza" break or not? This question has been debated year after year, and it has been debated for many years, and there is still no definite answer. Support for people who must be broken, the reason is that the excess tillers will compete with the main stem for nutrients, resulting in the late corn cob growth is not large, affecting the yield; people who do not recommend breaking, think that the excess tillers absorb limited nutrients, almost no impact on the main stem, the impact on the yield is negligible, and some people think that if the corn "yazi" will hurt the main stem, it may cause diseases and insect pests, and it is time-consuming, it is really undesirable.

For this problem, the three farmers made a special comparative observation last year, and part of the corn in the same field was broken and partly retained. As a result, when it comes to the corn harvest, there is no obvious difference in the size of the corn cob, and the plant that breaks the corn "yazi" is nothing special except for the good look, and there is no special plant that does not break the corn "yazi", and the corn cob is not small. Some corn "yazi" can't grow up when they grow, and some corn "yazi" can grow and even bear small corn cobs, but the corn cobs on the main stem grow normally.

If individual corn varieties have too many tillers and grow similarly to the main stem, then consider breaking it!

Of course, this is only a personal observation of the three rural loudspeakers, and it does not explain anything. However, according to personal observation, for the problem of corn "yazi" not breaking, it is recommended not to break, the reason is that the yield of corn is normal, and if the corn "yazi" is more, it is indeed labor-intensive and time-consuming to break up, too troublesome!
