Lei Feng, commander of a certain transport company of the engineering corps of the Shenyang Military Region, is an outstanding representative of this. On March 5, 1963, all newspapers in the capital published Mao Zedong's inscription "Learn from Comrade Lei Feng" in a prominent position on the front page, setting off an upsurge of learning from Lei Feng's advanced deeds.
Lei Feng was born in 1940 in a poor peasant family in Wangcheng County, Hunan Province, and became an orphan at the age of 7. In 1949, Lei Feng's hometown was liberated, and he not only received land, but also wore a red scarf. In November 1958, at the age of 18, Lei Feng left his hometown and went to Angang Steel to work as a steel worker. This is a photo of him while transiting in Beijing.
When he was in Angang, Lei Feng worked 8 hours a day, did not go back to sleep after work, but moved his quilt and mattress to the workshop together, and slept in the workshop at night. On January 8, 1960, Lei Feng became a soldier in the People's Liberation Army as he wished, and he was 20 years old that year.
He said excitedly: "An orphan like me, who suffered from class oppression and national ravaging in the old society, has grown into a soldier of the People's Liberation Army after liberation under the nurturing of the Party and the wise Chairman Mao. ”
After enlisting in the army, Lei Feng became an automobile soldier, and because of his outstanding performance, he was approved to join the Chinese Communist Party in less than a year.
He was willing to be a "screw", do a line, love a line, specialize in a line, live frugally, save money to help the people in need and comrades-in-arms, and regard "no selfishness, special benefit" as the greatest happiness and happiness.
In his diary, Lei Feng wrote: "Human life is limited, but serving the people is unlimited, and I want to devote my limited life to infinite 'serving the people'." ”
On August 15, 1962, Lei Feng unfortunately died in the execution of his duties, at the age of 22. The masses spontaneously came to bid farewell to Lei Feng. The main leaders of the party and the state wrote inscriptions for Lei Feng, and the whole country set off an upsurge of learning from Lei Feng. Since then, March 5 of each year has become the anniversary of Lei Feng.
"Serve the people wholeheartedly", Lei Feng's spirit has inspired and educated generations of Chinese.
