Shenzhen Lily Foreign Chinese School (hereinafter referred to as Baiwai) has subverted many people's views on private schools with its top grades in the middle school examination for many years. How could this boarding junior high school, which seems to outsiders somewhat mysterious, achieve such results?
A few days ago, the author visited Baiwai on the spot and conducted an exclusive interview with Chairman Ling Guoqiang and President Zhu Zhengxing.
The school is small but has 32 piano rooms
The school is built on a slope, so you need to climb the stairs to enter the campus from the entrance, and the first thing that catches your eye are the small sculptures. Zhu Zhengxing told the author that this is a souvenir given to his alma mater by previous graduates. There are kapok trees on the slopes, and every April, the kapok flutters in the wind, "This season is also the time when the junior high school students are about to leave school, and many students say that this is the best memory of the junior high school students." ”
The school covers a small area of about 32,000 square meters, and the teaching buildings and office buildings are connected. From the first floor of the teaching building to the fifth floor, the corridors of literature, art and science and technology are greeted in turn. Entering the teaching area, the classrooms have the electronic equipment commonly found in public schools, all kinds of functional rooms are complete, and the hardware of the whole school looks no different from that of ordinary public schools.
Although the school is not large, the garden layout and construction are quite ingenious. Jingsi Garden, Materia Medica Garden, Xingyue Garden are Chinese architectural styles, Imagination Garden is a European architectural style, coupled with a European-style foreign language activity center and a Chinese-style library and faculty home, the whole school presents a combination of Chinese and Western architectural styles.
What is the secret of success for this school that does not seem to be much different from ordinary public junior high schools? In Zhu Zhengxing's view, good education is not packaged with ideas, let alone smashed out with money, but done little by little, and success lies in the details. It is worth mentioning that the school has 32 piano rooms. What is the experience of reading abroad? The daily life of the students is like this: early reading begins at 7:30 a.m., and like ordinary schools, the one-day course is completed before 4:30 p.m., followed by a comprehensive practical activity class; late self-study begins at 7 p.m., with two classes of one hour each, each evening self-study focuses on a certain subject assignment, and after completing the homework, you can do homework in other disciplines; after the evening self-study is a half-hour classic reading time, and the end time has reached 10:00 p.m.
"Compared with day schools, we have more time to arrange extracurricular activities. Students combine work and leisure, tension and relaxation, and their learning efficiency is higher. Zhu Zhengxing introduced, at the same time, Lily actively promotes the national curriculum school-based in classroom education, taking mathematics as an example, the mathematics textbooks outside the hundred have innovated the teaching method of "guide and volume", "guide" allows students to initially understand the learning content through pre-study, "volume" is the homework of the day, a "guide" a "volume", so that students can experience the importance of independent learning, through the teaching guidance in the classroom to guide students to learn independently and efficiently.
"We strive to cultivate students' ability to learn independently and efficiently, but at the same time, teachers pay a lot of attention to children, and our philosophy is not to give up on any student." Zhu Zhengxing said that at present, there are more than 1,500 students in 38 classes outside the hundred, with an average of 40 people per class, and there are no special top classes and key classes in the hundred outside. The first class that students come to school every Sunday is a class meeting organized and planned by the students themselves, and the intensive activities before leaving the school every Friday are also sponsored by the students themselves. Every afternoon, the school teachers set up more than 80 practical classes covering various fields such as music theater, graffiti drawing, model aircraft interest classes, etc., for the whole school students to choose freely. Baiwai also conducts weekly star and monthly star selection among students. More than 20 selection projects such as "Star of Life", "Star of Chinese Studies" and "Star of Filial Piety" allow every student to get attention.
At present, the school has 5 major festivals of sports festival, foreign language festival, science and technology festival, art festival and food festival, each festival lasts for one week, of which the unique food festival activities are loved by students, in the process of holding the food festival, not only can learn the knowledge of dining etiquette, Chinese and Western cuisine culture, but also have food production links for students to participate in.
In terms of student clubs, the school currently has an animation club, a mystery club, a football club, a guitar club, a literary club, a drama club, a history club, an art design club, an environmental protection fluorescent club, and a film work club. Ling Guoqiang said that the current children's life is poor in self-care, so the school will gradually open more practical courses to let every child outside the hundred learn to take care of themselves.

Is the main reason for the outstanding results because of the first-class students? How to balance test-taking education and quality education? Recently, around these problems, Ling Guoqiang, chairman of Shenzhen Lily Foreign Chinese School, and Zhu Zhengxing, president of Shenzhen Lily Foreign Chinese, elaborated on the way of running a school outside the lily.
Q: Lily's achievements in recent years have been very outstanding, and many people think that it is related to the source of students, what do you think?
Zhu Zhengxing: Baiwai is a private school, and the parents and children who choose to enroll are the people who agree with the school's philosophy, which is conducive to reaching the best tacit understanding in the 3-year education and teaching process.
Ling Guoqiang: While selecting students, we will also pay attention to parents' attitudes towards education, and I often say that schools and parents should be like-minded.
Question: People who don't know about the outside world will think, with such outstanding achievements, is it a school that pays attention to test-taking education, and whether the child will have any staying power in the future?
Ling Guoqiang: In reality, there are many people who have this kind of thinking, and some people in the education sector have deliberately run to the school to find out, and many people will not think like this after understanding our school. Now most parents are very concerned about their children's growth in addition to their grades. Most of our students' parents are from Shenzhen, as well as from Beijing, Taiyuan and the surrounding Dongguan and Huizhou areas. Many parents rent a room around the school to accompany their children to study, spending so much investment, never just for the sake of grades. If you only engage in test-taking education, students do not like the school, hate the teacher, then the development of the school is actually difficult to sustain.
Baiwai attaches great importance to all-round education. For example, in the primary school junior high school, we pay great attention to the child's long body, so we attach great importance to physical exercise, at 5 p.m. the physical education teacher will work overtime to lead and guide the students to exercise, the school also cooperates with stoke City Football Club in the United Kingdom to hire the club's professional coach to open football courses. Q: Students from outside 100 need to live on campus, and there may be parents who will have concerns and worries, how to view this problem?
Ling Guoqiang: The parents of the first freshman at the beginning of this year told me that after coming in for 1 month, the children had undergone earth-shaking changes. From a student who is dependent on everything, he has become a very sensible and reasonable student. Children leave their parents sooner or later, and there is no harm in being independent earlier. Of course, parents' worries and concerns are not unreasonable. If a school's learning style is poor and the teaching style is not correct, the impact on the child is very large; if the learning style is correct, there is no problem in living in the school. In our school, children do not compare who eats well and dresses well, whose car is good, who has money, everyone only learns.
Zhu Zhengxing: Residential schools can help students develop good learning habits, standardize learning thinking, and also help the unified management of schools, so parents do not have to resist the concept of residential schools. Of course, for schools, the management pressure of residential schools is also very large. We invest a lot of energy and resources, that is, we hope that the teaching style and learning style can form positive energy, so as to help students grow better.
