"The Orphan of Zhao" is a new contemporary interpretation of an ancient Chinese classic
The walls stood diagonally, the earth poured over, and the cold light passed through the cracks. A forgotten wandering soul quietly stands on the stone steps. The petals dance in the night wind, and the wandering soul slowly chants. Ancient Chinese classics, new contemporary interpretations, and the artistic sparks of the passionate collision of all the creators and performers of "The Orphan of Zhao" rose and hovered on the stage in Chengdu, igniting every audience.
"Orphans of Zhao" is one of the four tragedies of the Yuan Miscellaneous Drama, telling the story of the tragic slaughter of the Zhao Dun family of Shangqing of the Jin Dynasty, and the legend of the door guest Cheng Bao sacrificing his own child in exchange for the safety of the "Orphan of Zhao", raising him to grow up and helping him to take revenge. And the promise of Cheng Bao and Gongsun Pestle has become a model of honesty and loyalty in ancient times.
The original musical "Orphans of Zhao", newly created by Shanghai Xu Jun Dramatic Arts Center, can be described as "Chinese and British mixed". The play is based on the original book "The Orphan of Zhao" by the Yuan Dynasty playwright Ji Junxiang, based on the English poet James Fenton's play of the same name. Not only the performances of tiantuan-level creators, Zheng Qiyuan, Ming Dao, Xu Junshuo, Fang Shujian, Xue Jianing and other famous musical theater actors and cross-border film and television celebrities, but also made the long-awaited Chengdu audience addicted.
First "Save orphans" and then "take revenge" Contradictions and conflicts are clear and compact
From the lonely whispers of cold silence to the shouts of the rising fire, the picture of the story slowly pushed out, and Cheng Bao, Tu Anjia, Cheng Bo and other figures were frozen in the picture frame. Time goes back in time, and fate is wrapped in the ancient story of "revenge for justice", testing in impermanence. Under the test, everyone is faced with a choice, and the moment of choice, their life path stretches and intersects into the unknown.
The first half of the whole drama is closely related to "saving orphans", and the second half is closely related to "revenge". It is worth mentioning that the play is ingenious in its narrative structure and adopts the main perspective of "Cheng Zi Soul". The plot layout is compact, the contradictions and conflicts are clear, so that the expression of the story and the rendering of emotions are more comfortable and close to the audience. Cheng Bo, the "orphan of zhao" played by Xu Junshuo, saw the evil consequences of the brutal rule of Tu Anjia, played by Ming Dao, causing the destruction of the country's lives, and although he struggled in his heart, he still made a choice.
The director also deliberately joined the trio of Cheng Bao, Tu Anjia and Cheng Bo, "I Have Grown Up", and cheng Bo, who has grown up, is far away from home in excitement and confusion. The two fathers had their own thoughts, one triumphantly urging his son to go to his rivers and mountains, and the other secretly entrusting his son with a message that needed to be passed on. In addition, the soul dialogue between father and son appeared for the first time in the musical "The Orphan of Zhao", which was well received by many audiences.
The music sings straight to the hearts of the people Chengdu opera fans are addicted
"Orphans of Zhao" has a total of 26 singing segments, and the overall style is magnificent and atmospheric, including such majestic and tragic songs as "how big the country is, the hero is as small as sand", "the moon bend is as sharp as a hook, and the dew drops are shining on the slope", and there are also moments of warm pulse such as "the flying dragon sleeps on the tiles, and the moonlight reflects the begonias". The music is majestic and delicate, and the lyrics are also full of historical moods, reaching the hearts of the people.
