Xia Ping: A relic from Ukraine, traveling through 30 years of memory

Author: Xia Ping

When the sudden catastrophe of the new crown virus swept the world for more than two years, the war broke out overnight!

As a result of Russia's all-out military offensive against Ukraine on February 24, the already tense confrontation between Russia and Ukraine deteriorated sharply, and as the war escalated and expanded, it touched everyone's heart.

Can't help but flip out one

The ring that has been treasured for 30 years,

Reminiscing about that year

The past of the trip to Soviet Russia,

Thoughts abound...

Xia Ping: A relic from Ukraine, traveling through 30 years of memory

On December 20, 1991, we set off for Moscow, the capital of the Soviet Union that had not yet disintegrated at that time, and began an unforgettable journey for more than ten days.

The schematic diagram of our itinerary is as follows:

➡ Moscow ➡ St. Petersburg ➡ Minsk ➡ Kiev ➡ Moscow ➡ return trip

On December 20, 1991, when my husband and I first set foot on the russian soil, the flag of the Soviet sickle and axe flew everywhere. (See the red flag above the Kremlin in the picture))

But on December 25, 1991, the world saw on television that the Soviet scythe-axe flag was lowered from the Kremlin flagpole, the Russian tricolor flag was raised, and the Soviet Union ceased to exist as a sovereign state.

Earlier in the day, Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev resigned, handing over the Kremlin and its remnants of political power to Russian President Boris Yeltsin.

Witnessing such a great historical change of "red flag landing on the ground" was actually completed in a peaceful way without shedding a drop of blood, which made people feel a thousand emotions!

Afterwards, we take a train to St. Petersburg, a city bordering the Gulf of Finland and the Neva River passing through the city, an important Russian port along the Baltic Sea.

During the visit to the two cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, I deeply experienced the profound cultural and artistic heritage of Russia in ballet, music, painting, literature and other aspects.

For several consecutive days, I excitedly visited the famous Hermitage Museum, which has a collection of more than 100,000 pieces.

This tour,

My husband left behind a diary of more than 20 pages

Xia Ping: A relic from Ukraine, traveling through 30 years of memory

Excerpt from the diary:

"At 11 a.m. on December 26, I left St. Petersburg for Kiev and took a train (sleeper) for more than 30 hours, passing through Minsk, Belarus, and on the way I saw endless forests, endless snowfields, and occasionally some houses of light colors, as depicted in Russian paintings. The mother and daughter in the same carriage are very simple and get along very well. There were also some enthusiastic workers on the train, with whom they drank vodka and marinated white fatty meat.

Arrived in Kiev at 6 p.m. on the 27th, staying at Stanislavna's house, where she was the daughter of a Ukrainian cadre. Her husband Slava (a Sven Master of Economics) came to the station to greet her. A grand dinner is held in the evening. Her home is a high-class residence in the center of Kiev."

Although I only stayed in Kiev for two days and one night, which was a short time, I was extremely impressed!

Aisha, an alumnus of Beijing Normal University (who was studying for a Ph.D. at Moscow University at the time), accompanied us throughout the process and enthusiastically guided us.

Since then we have also become close friends.

These small rooms are probably called in Russian

Summer villa "дача"

On the bunk bed opposite us sat a Ukrainian mother and daughter who had just returned from a visit to their families in St. Petersburg.

The mother and daughter are very simple and not good at words, and the daughter also sleeps for a long time because of a cold.

Seeing that she had no appetite, we took out a box of cheese and gave it to her, and she looked at it and liked it very much, but immediately put it away again, saying that she was going to take it home and share it with her brother, because it was extremely scarce and painful.

On both sides of the middle reaches of the Dnieper River, kiev, the capital of Ukraine, is the oldest city founded by the East Slavs.

Cake after the family feast,

This was already quite a luxury at the time!

This shows the honesty and hospitality of the host!

Because the weather is relatively cold, we all use warm babies for daytime activities, but Stanis Lavna put away the warm babies we sent, saying that such good things should be used in an emergency.

How did such a rich country become such a state? We had mixed feelings.

"At the end of the 28th, the hostess and her wife guided us, visited many exquisite churches, also went to the border of Kiev Castle, also visited the gallery, went home at noon for lunch, and walked in the art street in the afternoon, watching a large number of gallery works.

Evening on the Dnieper River The streets next to the night are even more beautiful, the churches look like white crystal palaces under the lights, and Kiev as a whole is a city of art!

Ukrainians have deep national feelings, 92% expect independence, they open the door to the country, they see the outside world, they look forward to the revitalization of the motherland with a new system.

In the evening we went to the station and took the night train "Ukraine" back to Moscow."

Fertile green plains, a long-standing cultural ancient city

It's heartbreaking to be caught up in the fighting today!

When we gamble on war and pray for peace,

Peace does not necessarily come easily;

But if we cheer for war,

Then it must be very close to us!

the outbreak of any war,

It's all a major tragedy.

It's all life ruin,

Family broken,

The people don't talk about life!

For civilians,

War is the greatest disaster!

Xia Ping: A relic from Ukraine, traveling through 30 years of memory

Sincerely hope that with the wave of peace rising

The situation in Russia and Ukraine has eased rapidly,

The flames of war are extinguished as quickly as possible!

Save more in the midst of war

Father, husband, son

Save more innocent lives!
