Until the test drive of the BYD Song MAX DM-i, the author finally encountered a MPV that is both easy to drive and fuel-efficient, and it is comfortable to drive and ride.
What is Song MAX DM-i?
Song MAX DM-i is the world's first MPV model equipped with BYD DM-i super hybrid technology, and the new car has been announced in January this year, with a pre-price of 146,800-17.38 million yuan, and will be officially launched in March. Since BYD released the DM-i super hybrid technology, several new models that have been listed, whether sedans or SUVs, have all become the sales explosions of their respective market segments, and BYD's DM-i super hybrid technology has also shocked the world.
DM-i super hybrid technology has the five advantages of "fast, provincial, static, smooth and green", as a set of electric drive-based hybrid technology, with ultra-safe large-capacity battery and high-performance high-power flat motor as the design basis, mainly relying on high-power and high-efficiency motor for driving, the main function of gasoline engine is to generate electricity in the high-efficiency speed area, timely direct drive. The driving texture is close to that of a pure electric SUV, two words to describe: good to open
The song MAX DM-i pre-market test drive activity was arranged in Shuangyue Bay, Huizhou, Guangdong Province, and the traffic flow was not large, which also allowed us to test the dynamic performance of new cars on expressways, mountain national highways and other sections.

Looking at the power configuration of Song MAX DM-i, the new car is divided into two versions of pure electric 51km and 105km, and the power system is composed of a 1.5L high-efficiency engine and a high-power DM-i super hybrid special power blade battery, and the acceleration time of 0-100km/h is 8.5 seconds and 7.9 seconds, which is 2-3 seconds faster than the MPV model of the same level, and the power parameters are very beautiful.
The author's test drive this time is a 105km model with an upgraded roof, full of power, moderate body size and not bulky, such a model, as soon as I sit in the driver's seat, I have a lot of driving desire. During the test drive of the Song MAX DM-i, the surprises experienced were real.
First, the power is sufficient and the response is fast. Since the DM-i super hybrid technology is mainly based on electric drives, the driving texture of Song MAX DM-i is very close to that of pure electric models, especially the initial acceleration is very fast, and the total torque of the electric motor reaches 325 Nm, which is comparable to the push back feeling brought by the 2.0T turbocharged engine. And the new car accelerator pedal responds quickly and does not drag, and the power is followed by the pedal, which is very heeled.
Second, no setbacks, more comfortable. Thanks to the blessing of the EHS electromissible system, Song MAX DM-i does not have a mechanical gearbox in the traditional sense, but the principle of electronic stepless speed change, which will appear very smooth in the acceleration process. If the power consumed is converted into fuel consumption, we can also calculate the comprehensive fuel consumption of our test drive, which is 4.6L/100 km. This is also very consistent with BYD's official announcement of the 51km model with a power loss of 4.4//100 km. Regarding the excellent power loss fuel consumption of DM-i super hybrid technology, I believe that there is no need to explain too much, and several previous explosive models equipped with this technology have verified its industry advantages in actual life.
Based on the above advantages, the experience of driving such a model is very pleasant. Wanting to be passionate, the author even experienced the pleasure of leaving the fuel car around him far behind when starting at the traffic light several times, without worrying about the embarrassment of violent driving; want to be comfortable and comfortable, the tranquility and peace of normal driving, so that the driving mood is comfortable.
The author has worried that the upgraded roof of the Song MAX DM-i will increase the weight of the body, increase the center of gravity of the body, increase the wind resistance of the body and other factors that affect driving, but after the actual experience, these worries of the author are superfluous. The streamlined shape and special materials specially used in the upgraded roof shape of this model have little impact on weight and wind resistance, and the MPV itself has a lower chassis than the SUV model, and the overall center of gravity is not much different from the SUV. Therefore, the overall driving experience of the Song MAX DM-i is infinitely close to that of the pure electric SUV model of the same class.
Ride comfort upgrade, easy to open and "easy to sit"
An MPV model, sitting comfortably is a matter of course, how to be more comfortable is the new car needs to consider the problem. The 2 seats in the third row support individually recline. When the third row of seats is fully receded, a flat trunk space can be formed, which greatly improves the loading capacity. But if you don't put it down, you can only put some backpacks, and the actual test trolley box can't be put down. It is worth adding that we test drive the 6-seat model of Song MAX DM-i, according to the official, the new car also has a 7-seat version, with a 2+3+2 seat layout, and the second and third rows can be all flattened to form a larger space, which is more practical for commercial use. For ordinary household use, the 6-seater model can also meet most of the loading needs of people.
