Beijing News Express (reporter Wu Tingting) On the morning of March 2, the fire collection ceremony of the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games was held in the warm home of Wangjing Street in Chaoyang District, and the theme of the torch relay was to collect the "fire of mutual assistance".
A few days ago, the reporter walked into the warm home of Wangjing Street, a two-story small building that has long become an indispensable "home" for more than 1,700 disabled people in the jurisdiction.

It is equipped with 12 functional classrooms, including courses such as calligraphy and painting, paper cutting and so on
Wangjing Street Warm Home is located in the south of Huajiadi, speaking of warm homes, the residents in the community are well known. Walking into the small building, a photo on the wall records the disabled people and the stories of the place, as well as many paintings, calligraphy, and handicrafts.
There are 12 different functional classrooms in Wangjing Street Warm Home, including library and electricity classrooms, calligraphy and painting classrooms, dance classrooms, rehabilitation training rooms, etc., with courses such as calligraphy and painting, paper cutting, shadow puppetry, pottery flute, recitation and so on. When the reporter visited, it was just in time for the "peak" of the activity, and many people in the classroom were learning Chinese painting, playing chess and cards, and practicing dryland curling. The volunteers who teach the Chinese painting course here introduced that the classroom was hung with the works of the students, "After about two years of study, everyone has drawn a lot." ”
In the handicraft classroom, everyone is working in groups to complete walnut peel handicrafts. I saw that everyone spread the walnut peel that had been cut into small slices on the table, picked out the smooth walnut skin on the surface, and then pasted the walnut peel according to a certain combination. After post-processing, handicrafts such as walnut peel tabletop screen ornaments and walnut peel jewelry boxes are completed. According to the staff of Warm Home, walnut peel handicrafts have been given to Chinese and foreign guests as representative works of disabled people in Wangjing Street.
Under the guidance of volunteers, the trainees also integrated the Elements of the Winter Olympics such as "Ice Pier" and "Snow Rongrong" with the traditional skills of Chinese intangible cultural heritage paper-cutting and filigree enamel, so that China's intangible cultural heritage skills will be revitalized during the Winter Olympic Games and the Winter Paralympic Games.

Switch the "Olympic mode" and upgrade barrier-free facilities
With the arrival of the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games, the warm homes of Wangjing Streets have switched to the "Olympic mode". According to the staff, the "association" with the Olympic Games began in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, during which it received nearly 100 Paralympic athletes from 19 countries. In 2022, the Wangjing Street Warm Home was identified by the Beijing Disabled Persons' Federation as a "demonstration warm home" during the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In accordance with the standards of barrier-free environmental facilities for the International Winter Olympics, the hardware facilities of the warm home in Wangjing Street have been transformed and expanded many times. The reporter noted that barrier-free parking spaces have been added in the courtyard of the warm home; the handrails of the stairs in the building have all been transformed into high and low handrails; the barrier-free elevators have been installed, and the low elevator buttons are convenient for people who use wheelchairs; and the washstand on the outside of the bathroom is equipped with a low-level wash basin.
In addition, the reporter learned from Chaoyang District that at present, a total of 69 warm homes have been built in Chaoyang District, with an annual service volume of more than 330,000 people.
