The Russian Defense Ministry said the Russian paratroopers had reached an agreement with an independent battalion of the Ukrainian National Guard to jointly guarantee the safety of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, a move to ensure that "Ukrainian nationalists or other terrorist groups" were not allowed to use the plant for nuclear intimidation.
Does the plant still have a reactor in operation? Of course not, the pile was sealed after the accident a few decades ago, but there are still a few leaks, and the core area is still quite dangerous. In order to prevent leakage, the international community later worked together to install a huge protective cover for the waste reactor (figure II).
If someone blew up the hood now, it would be another huge humanitarian disaster. You know, the former Soviet Union spent a lot of money to seal this place, but it can't be destroyed anymore.
