Another NFL manager was fired and chose to become a position coach, former Chicago Bears coach Matt Najib joined the Chief, reuniting with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reed in Missouri as senior assistant and quarterback coach.
Najib, 43, has spent the past four years as manager for the Chicago Bears, but he has taught with the Chiefs for the previous years, from 2013 to 2016 as the Chiefs' quarterback coach, and in 2017 as the team's offensive coordinator, which was also Mahoms' debut season, but he was behind Alex Smith and still a substitute quarterback.
It is worth noting that yesterday the chief just renewed his contract with attacking coordinator Eric Biniemi for another year, and Najib will work under him. In the 2017 season, Najib was the chief's offensive coordinator, while Binhemi worked under him as a running back coach.
Najib's four-year managerial career has been modest, with a cumulative total of 34 wins and 31 losses, but last season it was only 6 wins and 11 losses. He had a peak, in 2018 he led the Bears to 12 wins, won the National North Championship, and in the 2020 season, his Bears only had 8 wins and 8 losses, but still broke into the playoffs.
