
On February 25, Monolithic Power Systems (MPS), a supplier of power management chips, released its 2021 financial report.
According to the report, revenue for 2021 was $1.208 billion, up 43% year-over-year, net profit was $242 million, up 47.2% year-over-year, gross margin was 56.8% for the full year, and R&D expenses to revenue ratio was 15.8%. MPS said the revenue increase was mainly due to a 31% increase in overall unit shipments and an increase in average selling prices of about 8%, and the increase in average selling prices was mainly due to favorable changes in product mix, with more sales coming from products with higher unit prices.
According to the end market division, computing and storage accounted for up to 30.8%, and the field with the highest year-on-year growth was automotive electronics, with a growth rate of 87.5%.
MPS said the growth in the compute and storage market was primarily driven by strong sales growth in enterprise notebook, cloud computing, and storage applications; growth in the automotive market was primarily driven by sales growth in highly integrated applications that support digital cockpits, advanced driver assistance systems, and connectivity; growth in the industrial market was broad-based, with revenue growth better than double digits in each of our major product lines; and revenue growth in the communications market was primarily due to higher sales of infrastructure and wireless application products Revenue growth in the consumer market was primarily due to higher sales of home appliances and smart TVs.
In addition, according to geographical location, Chinese mainland accounted for 68%, Taiwan accounted for 14%, Europe accounted for 7.1%, South Korea accounted for 7.7%, Southeast Asia accounted for 4.5%, Japan accounted for 5.7%, and the United States accounted for 3.0%.
