Ukraine is located in the east of Europe, bordering Russia to the east, the Black Sea to the south, Belarus to the north, and Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova to the west. Ukraine is geographically important and is the geopolitical intersection between the European Union and the CIS, particularly with Russia.

The past and present of Russia and Ukraine

In the early Paleolithic period, traces of ancient human activity existed in the territory of Ukraine. The word "Ukraine" was first used in the Annals of Rus (1187), meaning "frontier land". In 1240 the Mongol Expeditionary Force (Batu) occupied Kiev. Later, the Mongol Golden Horde, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Poland successively ruled Ukraine. In 1654, the Ukrainian Cossack chief Khmelnytsky signed the Pereyaslav Treaty with the Russian Tsar, and Ukraine and Russia were formally merged. Since then, Ukraine has had its own Government, but it has not played a substantive role. Joined the Soviet Union in 1922 (Western Ukraine joined in 1939). On July 16, 1990, the Supreme Soviet of Ukraine adopted the Declaration on the Sovereignty of the State of Ukraine. On August 24, 1991, Ukraine declared its independence.

Ukraine is the world's third largest food exporter, known as the "granary of Europe", and its agricultural output accounts for 20% of GDP. Ukraine's industry and agriculture are relatively developed, and heavy industry occupies a major position in industry.

Russia, also known as the Russian Federation, referred to as the Russian Federation, Russia. It is a federal semi-presidential republic composed of 22 autonomous republics, 46 oblasts, 9 krai regions, 4 autonomous regions, 1 autonomous prefecture and 3 federal municipalities directly under the central government. Located in the northern part of Eurasia, spanning two continents of Eurasia, with a land area of 17.0982 million square kilometers, it is the largest country in the world, and it is also a unified multi-ethnic country composed of 194 ethnic groups, the main ethnic group is Russians, accounting for about 77.7% of the total population of the country.

The past and present of Russia and Ukraine

The ancestors of the Russians were the East Slavic Rus tribes. At the end of the 15th century, a unified feudal state was gradually formed with the Grand Duchy of Moscow as the center. In 1547 Ivan IV changed the title of Grand Duke to Tsar, and in 1721 Peter I was awarded the title of "All-Russian Emperor" by the Senate and established the Russian Empire. Embarked on the path of aggression and expansion, annexing many Countries in Eurasia and reaching its peak in the mid-to-late 18th century during the reign of Catherine II Alexeyevna. Soviet Russia was established after the October Revolution of 1917. On December 30, 1922, the Soviet Union formed the Soviet Union with the countries that had become independent from the Russian Empire after the same war. During the Cold War, it became a superpower and competed with the United States for hegemony by vigorously developing military power.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia, the largest member state, inherited most of the Soviet Union's military power. It has the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons in the world. In the international system of "one superpower and many strong", Russia is a powerful country with great influence, and its military industrial strength is strong, especially higher education and aerospace technology, ranking the forefront of the world. Russia is one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and has a veto over Security Council bills.

Present

Driven by the United States and other countries, NATO has been expanding eastward, making Russia have a sense of crisis. In order to prevent neighboring Ukraine from joining NATO, russia has no military buffer zone and is subject to others, Russia has made a series of corresponding military actions and political statements. Because there are some conditions for joining NATO, one of the most important is not to be at war. Moreover, nato's expansion has seriously threatened Russia's homeland security, either passively beaten, or take the initiative, and grasp the initiative to win a glimmer of hope, otherwise it will only be beaten. So Russia carried out military operations against Ukraine, and on February 24, 2022 local time, Ukrainian President Zelenskiy announced that Ukraine and Russia had severed diplomatic relations.

The military and economic strength of Ukraine and Russia are too different, and the outcome of the war can be imagined. Ukraine had thought about NATO and U.S. aid, but when the war really came, where they were and what they were doing. In the end, Ukraine is just a pawn used by NATO.
