ING Bank Romania, one of the largest banks in Romania, recently moved nearly 2,000 employees from its Bucharest headquarters to a new office building. This case was presented by the Ama design team.

The new headquarters uses a new workplace design concept, with flexible workspaces and recreation areas, so that people can freely choose their favorite places to complete their daily work without having to stay at a small desk every day. While this has become commonplace among technology companies, in Romania, ING was the first financial company to implement this design concept.
"Compared to the previous headquarters, when there were only three types of space (offices, meeting rooms and kitchens), the new headquarters brought nine types of spaces and a completely new organizational system based on the Agile Work Concept and the ING Group's global guidelines. As a result, the nine-storey headquarters includes office space, collaboration areas, focused workspaces and relaxation areas. ING Bank explained in its press release.

In the Agile work concept, workspaces are extremely flexible, and employees are free to choose where they want to work based on their work needs and when they arrive at the office. ING Bank of Romania headquarters has a total area of about 18,000 square meters and is located in the Expo Business Park in the north of Bucharest.
The new ING Bank headquarters has 1,346 separate spaces or "flexible" offices, which is less than the number of employees currently available, as the bank takes into account that daily traffic can be affected by various holidays or weekdays (working outside the home). During 2019, about 40% of employees chose to work from home for at least one day.
The new headquarters features 203 dedicated workspaces (with comfortable sofas or acoustic furniture, including classic cubicles). The collaboration space consists of a formal space (meeting room) for 92 people, and an informal space for up to 180 people (located in an open form in the central area of each floor, with a variety of armchairs and sofas).

Two new spaces are also planned for the new headquarters: a common work area and an activity room. On the ground floor of the building there is a public workspace where even anyone outside the bank can work quietly. The Communication Center is a modern space with stylish modular furniture that can accommodate around 80 people for events dedicated to ING employees or clients, as well as with external organizers.
