Pearls can be used to make high-grade ornaments and are also a valuable medicinal herb. More than 20 kinds of proprietary Chinese medicines such as pearl pills, liushen pills, and Angong niuhuang pills contain pearls, which are used to treat diseases such as fever and epilepsy, sore throat, wound decay, long-term non-healing of the ulcer sores, and red eye disease.
The pearl produced in the South China Sea on the mainland is a "southern pearl", which is world-famous. There is a popular saying in the international market: the western pearl (made in Western Europe) is not as good as the eastern pearl (made in Japan); the eastern pearl is not as good as the southern pearl (produced in the South China Sea). Why does Nanzhu have such a reputation? This is mainly because the South Pearl is dignified and strong, large and round, fresh in color and pure in texture.
Nanzhu is produced in Hepu County, Guangxi Province, on the shores of the North Bay of the South China Sea. Since the Han Dynasty, pearls have been abundant here. Old Book of Tang. As early as 1700 years ago, Hepu began to collect pearls. On the seashore south of Hepu, there is still the ruins of a pearl ancient city from the Ming Dynasty. It was named White Dragon for an emperor of the Ming Dynasty who sent eunuchs here to supervise the pearl mining. The city walls are one kilometer in circumference and are made of pearl shells mixed with mud, hence the name "Pearl City".
Natural pearl fishing Because pearl oysters are scattered in the vast sea, it is very hard to fish for pearl oysters on the seabed, and the yield is not high. In order to change the backward appearance of relying on natural pearl breeding for a hundred years, since the 1950s, the mainland has vigorously developed artificial breeding and artificial pearl breeding, and begun a new chapter in the mainland pearl industry.
