The film is the long-form debut of Jang Chul-so, the assistant director of South Korean director Kim Ki-duk, "The Beginning and End of kim Fu Nam Murder", which was released in South Korea in 2010 and won the Best Newcomer Director Award at the 47th Korean Film Grand Bell Awards. Funan and Haiyuan were childhood friends, and after many years of not seeing each other, goodbye was two people from different worlds: Haiyuan was dressed brightly, with white skin and beautiful skin; while Funan was dressed in coarse cloth and linen, with a black face, looking like a village woman.
The enthusiastic and cheerful Funan excitedly introduced everything in the village to Haiyuan, who gradually discovered that the people in the village were old-fashioned in their thinking, and the wind of male superiority and female inferiority prevailed. Just by simply repairing the roof, the old people praised Funan's husband for his shrewdness and ability, but Funan, who washed and cooked all day and took care of farm work, was regarded as a pig and a dog, with no dignity. The humble Funan lived here cautiously and with difficulty, even enduring the beatings of her husband and the humiliation of her uncle. The stubborn Funan chose to endure everything silently because he did not want his daughter Xiaoyan to be hurt in the same way. Now the arrival of Haiyuan has added a touch of color to Funan's suffering life.
On this day, Funan's husband was exercising with some kind of "professional woman" in the house, and the moans were incessant. Funan outside the house was not impressed, swallowing the food in a big mouth, as if he had long been surprised by this kind of thing. Unfortunately, outside the house, Haiyuan was taking Funan's daughter Xiaoyan towards home, and Funan quickly pulled Xiaoyan out and let Haiyuan take Xiaoyan out to play. Strangely, young Xiaoyan seemed to realize something and secretly applied lipstick to herself. Angry and frustrated, Funan asked Xiaoyan why he did this, and unexpectedly, the young daughter in front of him roared and said to himself: I also want to get my father's love!!! After saying that, Funan realized that things were not good, and a simple daughter might not be able to escape the poison. At the same time, Funan desperately protects Haiyuan from being attacked by the little uncle. Unexpectedly, the "professional woman" who once had only one side of the relationship actually chose to help. The plan went on schedule, it was getting dark, Funan woke up his sleeping daughter, and the two carefully fled to the seashore, where the woman and the boatman were waiting on the boat. Funan, who thought he had escaped, was surprised to find that her husband was walking towards the boat on the shore! It turned out that the boatman had already colluded with her husband. Funan, who failed to escape, was forcibly dragged back to the island by her husband, and her daughter Xiaoyan cried and begged her father: Don't beat her mother again. In the panic, the husband pushed his daughter away, the back of her daughter's head slammed heavily on the stone, the blood flowed, and after a while she lost consciousness, no matter how Funan cried, Xiao Yan had no more sound, only a gradually cold body...
There were people killed on the island, and the villagers, according to the custom, found the eldest brother who was a policeman in the city to deal with it. The helpless Funan complained about the atrocities committed by the villagers, and the police asked Haiyuan on the side whether she had seen Xiaoyan's death. Haiyuan's answer became the last straw that crushed Funan!!!
Funan, who had lost his daughter, had no worries at all, and looking at these mad animals in front of him, the anger in Funan's heart could no longer be contained. Desperate, Funan incarnated as a goddess of vengeance, holding a scythe with a cold light, harvesting ugly souls. The indifferent Haiyuan looked at Funan in surprise, and there was no kindness in Funan's eyes, and the scythe in his hand was stained with blood. This knife seems to be a desperate cry for an unjust fate, vowing to let the former perpetrators receive the punishment they deserve!!! The terrified Haiyuan went through several twists and turns, and finally escaped back to the police station in the city. When he woke up, Funan was right in front of him!!!
What happened to the two of them in the end? Frankly, I don't like this ending very much, so I won't describe it too much, and interested friends can find their own answers. At the end of the story, Haiyuan returned to her previous life, and what was different was that when she encountered the injustice of life again and the help of others, Haiyuan no longer evaded, nor was she indifferent, but helped others when they needed it, and bravely chose the path of justice.
"You are too unkind", this is a sentence that Funan said to Haiyuan, but this sentence is not Funan's ruthless accusation of this indifferent era!!! Funan's tragedy reflects many real problems: domestic violence, social prejudice, human indifference, and so on. Maybe we can't influence the development of the times, but we can choose what kind of person we are. Breaking the ugly personality bias, respecting women, loving women, and being a helpful ordinary person are things that each of us can do.
