The 19th-century Dutch artist Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema painted some of the scenes of the ancient Roman Empire. His works often feature imposing marble statues, as well as the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. Elie Saab strives to recreate this idyllic style at this haute couture launch. His series of pastel colors—rouge, hydrangea blue, lilac purple—are taken from Alma-Tadema's paintings; the high-rise designs and gentle curves that appear in the series are also inspired by classical dresses.
At the mention of Sab, almost everyone immediately associates themselves with a star-studded red carpet show; on that occasion, the brand's exposure was always high. Perhaps considering that this element will never be out of date, the designer has also introduced several lightweight goddess-style pleated long skirts in its signature embroidery and appliqué work. Strapless, with a wide open neck or one shoulder, these blister-textured dresses are perfectly suited to the elegant romance of the moment. (Judging from the scene of the Golden Globe Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the costumes at the awards ceremony are on the decline.) Some of the shapes are also very eye-catching: three mop long dresses, all with a black and white gradient base from the neckline to the skirt, and printed with countless colorful flower patterns; the first silk hard gauze skirt uses a retro skirt support, which is quite fairy; but the last two of the tulle and silk fabrics will surely become the hot shapes on the red carpet in the future. Saab continues its usually handy style of solid color, but also surprisingly introduces gradient elements - Roland purple, lemon yellow, blue lake, coral red, like Alma-Tadema's beautiful canopy.
