Byron Davis' full name is Byron Walter Louis Davis, and because his parents were addicted to drugs, Davis grew up following his maternal grandfather and maternal grandmother, and Davis's dearest person was his maternal grandmother, Laila Nicholson, who affectionately coined a nickname for her, "Madea." The family lives in a two-bedroom house south of Los Angeles, just 7 miles from the center of Staples. Davis himself revealed that when he was at Crossroads Middle School, he had thought about moving to The Middle School in Los Angeles South so he could be with his childhood playmates, but Lyra didn't agree because she felt that Crossroads Middle School's education was the best, and that it should come before friends and basketball.

Davis' idol was the "magician," but by then, the Lakers' "showtime" was nearing its end. Davis also loved the Clippers, and one Christmas, Clippers players Gary Grant and Bennot Benjamin came to their neighborhood to hand out gifts. Davis' performance in middle school attracted a lot of attention, reminiscent of Jason Kidd a few years ago. Kidd was a chorefack on college teams in high school, but Davis got more attention than that. By the spring of 1996, when Davis was in his fourth year of high school, the school had received no less than 20 phone calls from college coaches.

He insisted on returning to the field and eventually led the team to an 85-82 pass. Davis suffered a serious left knee injury and spent the entire season in the round of 16, when he couldn't play and UCLA suffered a crushing defeat.

In the summer, Davis only does two things: healing and eating and drinking. As a result, he grew 25 centimeters, all of which were not muscles. However, before the start of the 1998-99 season, he regained his body shape. After a four-game hiatus, he made his debut and quickly proved that he was still the leader. Two days before New Year's Day in 1999, at Loyola University, he announced with a dunk that his knees had fully recovered. Davis' final college game ended in defeat, averaging 15.9 points, 5.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game that season. NBA teams began to throw him an olive branch, and many teams in the lotto district were interested in him, but Davis most wanted to stay in Los Angeles.

Before the draft, Davis even refused to try out for the New Orleans Hornets because he didn't want to play in the East, but it backfired, and the Hornets wanted to pick him in third place. Davis would have been in higher picks.
