Sosuke Fujimoto once shared a very interesting quote in the past, saying, "It is not the architect who has influenced me the most, it is Einstein who has influenced me the most." ...... Einstein's concept of a 'gravitational field' may be an archetype in my space... Space is distorted by the presence of objects. ...... The way Einstein space exists would be a new possibility, and through such thinking it may be possible to evolve to the next stage. Looking back now, he is known as the architect of the department of nature, and indeed makes the space more natural and comfortable due to the existence of the building, making the interaction between people and the environment more natural and comfortable, both organic and harmonious.
Recently, following the Shiraiya Inn, which is cleverly connected by green hills, and the Hungarian Concert Hall, which opens hundreds of patios to show the sun, Shosuke Fujimoto's new design, the "Co-creation Base Facility" in Hida City, Gifu Prefecture, demolishes the factory building relocated in front of JR Hida Furukawa Station to create a bowl-like building that people can move on the roof, and the multiple entrances and exits of the first-floor square are naturally connected to the surrounding small blocks, hoping to make this place a co-creation base for the community to create!
The concept is co-creation with the community
From "Hida Takayama University" to "Co-creation Facility" in front of the station
Hida City has rich and beautiful mountain forest resources, but like many Japanese townships, it is also facing the problem of low births, but last year (2021) Hida Takayama University Establishment Fund announced that it will establish "Hida Takayama University" here. It is indeed difficult to open a university at a time of low birthrate and population loss, but they see the crisis as an opportunity, and the school hopes to take "co-creation with the community" as the main axis of education, through the way of "learning with the community, learning in the community, and learning from the community", so that the campus can become a medium to connect and support the community.
"Hida Takayama University" originally sought out Theosuke Fujimoto to design, he transformed the image of Hida City surrounded by mountains, so people gather and learn, and designed a building with the shape of a small hill in the school, the roof extends from the center down to the ground, and students, faculty or people who visit the campus can walk along the undulating lines, reflecting the vision of the school rooted in the ground and connecting the world.
All corridors on campus are designed as transparent open spaces, making every corner of the campus a place for students to discuss and inspire each other.
The new "Co-creation Facility" design, which was unveiled in January this year (2022), further creates a direct site connected to the community. Originally located in front of JR Hida Furukawa Station, the 40-year-old Toyo Co., Ltd. factory was relocated and rebuilt, and Hida Takayama University established a foundation centered on "Co-Innovation" to convert the 21,300-square-meter base into an open space for locals and tourists.
The newly unveiled Co-Creation Facility, also designed by architect Shosuke Fujimoto in January this year, will cover commercial, educational, residential and other functions, as well as activities and plans to connect schools and communities to co-create.
In addition to including commercial and residential facilities that meet the needs of residents, we will also set up learning shared spaces, open studios, student laboratories, student dormitories, etc., connecting community and school education, and will also hold various art theme activities in the future, under the cooperation between industry and academia, so that local residents, university students, and related populations have a communication and interaction space, and look forward to overcoming the problems faced by the locality. In addition, the geographical location 1.7 kilometers from Hida Takayama University, which takes only about 21 minutes on foot, can also enliven people's travel between urban locations.
The Co-Creation Facility is located in front of JR Hida Furukawa Station, and the excellent transportation location has the opportunity to become an important node for connecting with the city and beyond in the future.
There are quite a few important local cultural facilities near the base, and Hida Takayama University is only about 20 minutes walk away.
The building has many different types of facilities and is designed with multiple entrances and exits that are closely linked to the surrounding neighborhoods.
Create a container for a city,
Sosuke Fujimoto designs Hida City "Co-creation Base Facility"
The "Co-creation Site Facility" is like a large green basin, the center of the roof of the building gently sinks, and many holes are opened, and the sky and mountains can be seen from the indoor looking up, and the entrances and exits in all directions around the city are connected to the nearby streets and alleys, like an "open container" in the city, receiving people from different fields and accommodating various activities. At the same time, the design is similar to that of "Hida Takayama University", you can climb the roof square and deeply feel the magnificence of the mountains of Hida City, which can not only allow people to communicate and gather, but also serve as a stage for various activities in the future.
The "Co-creation Facility" has many huge holes in the roof of the building, and uses a large glass façade to make the space transparent and naturally perceive the outside world, just as Sosuke Fujimoto has always emphasized the relationship between the environment, people and architecture.
On the first floor, different types of leisure and living facilities will be set up for community use.
"Tradition and future, diversity and connection, individual and mass, nature and man-made, openness and protection." The container is like an intimate room, like a vast hill, a frame that cuts through the sky and changes with the seasons, a terrain that extends the mountains around Hida, very diverse. The design team said.
Standing in the middle of the building, the alpine scenery surrounding Hida City is even more magnificent.
The central roof of the building sinks to the ground, is this indoor or outdoor? Was it on the roof or in the building?
The construction of the "Co-creation Base Facility" is expected to be completed in 2024, and the "Hida Takayama University" is also expected to open in April of the same year to welcome its first students.
