Rumor has it that the 13-inch MacBook Pro won't have any design updates, continuing to use the same body and Touch Bar — a feature that has been eliminated on higher-end 14- and 16-inch devices. However, not all revelations support the Touch Bar, and Bloomberg Mark Gurman believes Apple will also cancel it.

With no design changes, the biggest change to the 13-inch MacBook Pro will be the upgraded M2 chip.

M2 chip

Since the launch of the M1, Apple has been working on a successor product, which will presumably be called "M2". M2 is expected to have the same 8-core CPU as M1, but with speed and efficiency improvements, as it may be built on a more advanced node.

As for gpu improvements, it will have additional GPU cores. It is expected that there will be 9-core and 10-core GPU options, which is higher than the 7- and 8-core GPU options of the original M1. The M2 won't be as powerful as the M1 Pro and M1 Max, which will be replaced by the M2 Pro and M2 Max.

Apple is expected to use the M2 chip in the updated 13-inch MacBook Pro and the 2022 MacBook Air.

14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro

The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models have previously ushered in a major update iteration in November 2021, and the 2022 Apple probably won't refresh the design, because the 2021 model has a new look, with a Mini-LED display, but everyone can expect a new chip.

Upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are likely to use future M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.

Release schedule

Sources in Apple's supply chain suggest that Apple may launch the 13-inch MacBook Pro at its Spring 2022 conference, which is expected to take place on Tuesday, March 8. In addition, it is mainly released iPhone SE 3 5G mobile phone.

If accurate, we'll see the release of the M2 chip as soon as March, which is earlier than previously suggested. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said Apple has a new 13-inch MacBook Pro in development, but he didn't provide specific information about the release date.
