He was a French painter who is generally considered a pioneer of the French classical painting style. Poussin worked in Rome almost all his life, and he is known for his paintings depicting myths and ancient history. His work is known for its dramatic power and narrative clarity. His career began to pick up pace in the 1620s. In 1622, Poussin was given his first assignment, and in 1623 he was commissioned to create a painting for Notre Dame de Paris. His initial works earned him recognition in the world of painting, and the court poet Giambattista Marino also created a series of paintings. Later, Poussin met claude Lorrain, an Italianized Frenchman, with whom Poussin made several expeditions to the countryside, where they painted landscapes of Rome. Claude was already very good at landscape painting, and it is believed that he introduced Poussin to the deep beauty of nature. Poussin also had close ties with the Baroque poet Giovanni Battista Marino. Pietro Testa, draftsman; and Matteo Zaccolini, polymath, painter, writer and mathematician.
When he returned home, he found that most of his former clients had died. While Poussin is able to sustain itself financially, aging is showing its effects. However, Poussin is still working and has quite a few customers on hand. By 1650, Poussin's health began to decline. Even so, he was able to create four paintings a year. Once his hand shaking became severe, he confined himself to landscape painting. After the death of his wife in 1664, Poussin's health deteriorated rapidly, and he finally swallowed his last breath in 1665.
