Why should teachers read?
There is a saying in "Persuasion": "Learning cannot be done." The "learning" here refers to the enlightenment and transcendence of life. In the sense of "learning to be enough", we should indeed live to be old, learn from the old, and make the meaning of our lives constantly full. This reason for reading is universal to all.
The second reason is the peculiarity of the profession of teacher. Vygotsky said: "Teaching should be ahead of the development of children. Because the profession of teacher has the characteristics of "unfinished", it is decided that we must really walk in front of children's development, we should be a learner, and continue to be a learner for a lifetime.
Today's reading is more of a "cross-border reading", that is, cross-professional reading, cross-domain reading, cross-identity reading, and cross-media reading.
What is interdisciplinary reading?
Regarding the title of teacher, there is a special term - "professional and technical position". In my case, my major is "primary school language teaching", if you define reading by this, the so-called professional reading is reading books and articles related to primary school language teaching.
Interdisciplinary reading is to jump out of such a professional idea and not to limit the reading vision.
I remember once observing a national primary school Chinese teacher literacy competition, in which the questions and answers in the question-and-answer session were often not directly related to teaching, but more general knowledge, such as astronomy, history, geography... Sometimes, teachers who are excellent in many aspects will also "wrestle" in this kind of problem.
Teachers engaged in their own professional teaching should never forget to look a little more and read more from a professional point of view. Remembering the black hole photos that astronomers announced a while ago, I thought that no matter which subject the teacher, click on the picture or the article to take a look, and stare at the black hole in the picture, it is good. At least at that moment, the heart is attracted by the black hole, feeling that the world is wonderful, guessing that everything in the universe is unpredictable, which is a kind of interdisciplinary reading.
What is cross-cutting reading?
As teachers, do we have to go deep into the field of education, does this mean that we can only wait and see? Actually, not also. We can extend from education to other areas, or go back and look at education, or connect different fields.
This is a prominent problem for teachers not to read, but does it constitute "the biggest problem in Chinese education"? Assuming that all teachers are now readers, love to read, and read good books, will they quickly reverse our current educational ecology? From a sociological point of view, this is not necessarily the case.
According to my observations and reflections on current education, in many cases, we as teachers have to think differently. The most convenient way to do this is to read across fields. The books we read can not only be pedagogy, but also political science, sociology, anthropology, biology, and so on. In this way, the perspective and depth of teachers' thinking, the gains and pleasures will be different, and in the end, this will also promote the professional growth of teachers.
In life, everyone has more than one identity, and so do teachers.
I'm a teacher, I'm a parent, and I'm an amateur creator at a local literary salon. Then our reading cannot be limited to one identity, but in fact, each identity can lead to a meaningful reading.
After having the status of "parent", I like to read books on family education, and I have to say that many tutors will also promote the improvement of the quality of teacher education. In the past two years, I have also read a lot of books related to medicine, some of which are directly written by doctors, doctors are more direct than teachers to face living people, and the living cases in the books have stimulated my thinking about the nature of education and children's lives.
I am a teacher, and to be a good teacher, you must understand children. Standing with children, it is natural to pay attention to children's reading. As a "big child" who accompanies him, reading children's books with children is to discover children and discover themselves. So, as far as cross-identity reading is concerned, I have a big feeling, which is the transcendence of personal labels. First, don't easily label yourself; second, don't be easily bound by the label of identity.

Although many people have a slight criticism of electronic reading, in my opinion, Mr. Nie Zhenning's words of "reading the screen when busy, reading books when idle" are worth learning. E-reading is by no means a beast, the essence lies in how to use it, how to achieve it.
Nowadays, when I go out, I always carry an e-reader with me, and the e-books in it will accompany me on my journey, and reading is always on the road. Since having a WeChat public account, reading the tweets of the public account every day is also cross-media reading. Horizons are broader, life is reading, reading the sky, reading the earth, reading the mountains, reading the water, reading you, reading him, reading the wordless books, reading the wordless books... These are all cross-media readings.
Cross-professional, cross-field, cross-identity, cross-media, this is my superficial understanding of cross-border reading, in fact, there must be more than these four "crosses". But all in all, what goes out is the boundary, and what goes in is a beautiful world that has not been opened before.
It is precisely because of cross-border reading that our "appetite" is not limited, and we do not frame ourselves in a certain aspect, but in our own interests, there are both discoveries about dreams and persistence about ourselves.
Reading and dreaming are thus perfectly combined.
Cross-border reading is not only a professional connection and leap, in essence, it is the pursuit of the unknown, the love of life, the unremitting pursuit of the side that we do not know, for our only life, we are willing to seize every minute, every second to love it, to live well.
Reading has a variety of reasons for existence, has a variety of possible meanings, cross-border reading may be the happiest and most effective of them. "Read the Word, Read the World", when we step out of the self-set reading boundaries, a new door, may be a door of learning, may be a door of interpersonal relations, may also be the door of life, the door of life, will be gently opened by our own hands, slowly open, we will set out for a complete and better self.
Teachers often ask me, "Then how did you cross borders?" ”
When I think about it, it's all about curiosity, problem awareness, and practical needs. Scholar Zhu Zhenglin said that "reading is a private matter", in the end how to read, how to read across borders, each person's situation is different, the reading method can not be copied.
The publisher Hao Mingyi once proposed the "seven ladders of reading", which I think is an excellent description of the level of cross-border reading, these seven ladders point to the progress of reading from shallow to deep, namely - you care, think, how to make yourself better; you begin to care and think about how to make yourself and your loved ones better together; you begin to learn to appreciate all abstract beauty; you begin to learn to appreciate the beauty of social systems; you begin to learn to appreciate the beauty of behavior that is different from yourself You begin to learn to appreciate the beauty of the stirring of multiple knowledge; you learn to appreciate the wisdom of the universe.
The word "ladder" also inspired me, that is, before the "cross-border", we must have a down-to-earth accumulation process, to a certain extent, and then there are some suitable opportunities, as readers, we will encounter "leapfrog" unexpectedly. This requires us to read uninterruptedly, and can have both the radiation of the reading side and the concentration of the practical point. Today's teachers, living in the jungle of books, cannot dwell in abundance but are starving to death, and we must leap out of the forest and be like wise hunters, focused, brave, and uninhibited.
