T.O.P. enlisted in the army in February 2017, during which time he was exposed to smoking marijuana, and at one point he lost consciousness and fainted, and was urgently escorted to a hospital in Seoul. In the end, he was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for 2 years, and fined 12,000 won (about 70 yuan) for drug abuse, and was removed from the volunteer police team of the former service unit, and completed the remaining military service as a social service official.
