What it felt like for Barcelona to have to watch Coutinho shine for Aston Villa in the Premier League. The Brazilian, who was acquired in January 2018 with money raised from Neymar's sale to Paris Saint-Germain, hopes he can continue the fiery form he showed when he played for Liverpool in the Premier League. However, this was never achieved. Coutinho struggled with a string of injuries and loss of confidence throughout his career at camp Nou. However, his performances at Aston Villa show that he quickly regained his shine in England under former team-mate Steven Gerrard. Coutinho scored twice in his first three Premier League games at Birmingham while assisting twice in a 3-3 draw with Leeds. Coutinho is just one of many players who have struggled at Barca but have made a difference elsewhere.
Cáceres
Barcelona spent a fortune signing Cáceres in 2008, believing he would be one of the most promising defenders in the league. But he played at Barca for just one season before being hampered by injuries. Juventus and Sevilla took him on loan, and Barca eventually sold him to the Andalusian side for 3 million euros. His long-term future, though, is at Juve, where he had his best time. Cáceres never realised his potential due to a string of injury problems, but he was a staunch defender in the game against Uruguay and Barca certainly didn't see his best side either.
Digne
Lucas-Digne's opportunities in Barcelona are limited. The France international left-back made only 29 appearances in La Liga after arriving in La Liga from Paris Saint-Germain and only scrawled for a few years before moving to Everton. After joining the Toffee, he became one of the Premier League's most threatening attacking full-backs, with assists and opportunities created at Goodison Park improved. Digne eventually left for manager Benitez to become Coutinho's team-mate at Villa, but the club still made a huge profit from the defender.
Ibrahimović
Although Ibrahimovic scored 22 goals in 46 games for Barcelona, his season at Camp Nou will be remembered as a failure as he showed the embarrassment of blending into culture on and off the pitch. He left quickly to sign for Milan, where he recovered to his best. He then became the goal record holder for Paris Saint-Germain and left a deep mark at Manchester United, playing a lead role in the American Major League and continuing to play for the Rossoneri until the age of 40.
Riquelme
Riquelme came to Barcelona as the most promising player in South American football, but head coach Luis van Gaal dismissed him, calling the Argentine's signing "ulterior motives". Riquelme is a classic and excellent Number 10 player, but Louis van Gaal has left him on the wing, and considering the Argentine's lack of speed, his performance on the wing is unexpected. Even after the coach's dismissal, Riquelme has not been able to regain his fighting spirit and he will be leaving after just one season. He then shined in Villarreal, where he was nominated for FIFA Player of the Year in 2005 and helped the club reach the Champions League semi-finals a year later.
Todibo
With little chance of impressing at Camp Nou, the French youngster was disappointed by his lack of playing time at Barcelona and quickly followed Nice back to his home country. At first, he left on loan, but the Ligue 1 side made the deal permanent. The 22-year-old now plays every week and his team are only behind Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, a result that has undoubtedly garnered widespread praise.
