Conte: Tottenham still have a long way to go before them The winner mentality cannot be bought by transfers

According to Football.London, in the 25th round of the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur lost 0-2 at home to Wolves. After the game, Tottenham boss Conte gave a joint interview to the media.

The performance of the players seems to lack confidence, can you solve this problem alone?

Confidence and stress are part of our job. For me, for the players, there's pressure. I think this situation is part of our job. If you remember, when I talk about a lot of the areas we're going to improve, I'm telling you more than just today's two-game losing streak at home. I'll keep it the same story: there's a long, long road ahead of us. But it is important that we cannot be afraid in the face of this long road.

Of course, we still have a lot to improve. It's hard to talk about today's game because in my opinion, the game played well and we did well. We created a lot of chances against a team that was second only to Manchester City in defence. Despite this, we created a lot of scoring opportunities and had possession. However, we still lost 2-0 to Wolves. There is no doubt that we must raise and address the lack of confidence. Because that happened, happened. We have to be good at withstanding stress, otherwise it will be difficult.

But I'll reiterate that these players are all good. Every day in training sessions, as well as in competitions, they are very dedicated, so I can't say they are not engaged enough. They persevered until the end, and I'm proud of that. But if you want to compete, if you want to compete for better rankings, there are many more ways to improve. We have a long way to go.

In recent games, given the team's defensive difficulties and the fact that you've said that Joe Rodden is a substitute for Eric Dale, have you ever thought about letting him play?

We're talking about a really good guy. He's very dedicated, but in this moment, maybe, maybe I made a mistake by choosing another player, but my assessment is to try to send the best players on the pitch. If I hadn't done that, it would probably be because I had other considerations.

Have you ever considered changing to a four-backer?

I think the two goals we conceded were hard to put into words. So after 30 minutes, I decided to change the tactics, the hitting-and-man tactics, and I think we did a good job. But when you lose a ball, you have to analyze the reason for the loss. It could be tactical, it could be something else, and right now we're battling confidence and pressure. I repeat, it's very difficult for me to talk about 'stress' because stress is part of our job and I'm used to it.

But I know there are different situations and we have to try to get better control of them. We must improve spiritually. When I mention improvement, I mean not only on the pitch, but also in general. I think we can improve.

Are you worried about the lack of a winner mentality among the players?

The problem is that you can't buy a winner mentality. You can buy players through transfers, but it's uncertain if you can buy that mentality because some players are more open and they understand the process very quickly, while others take longer to understand that. In my opinion, a winner mentality means that when you play, you are ready to kill your opponent and survive.

It's like a duel, every kick, every set-piece. When you show a higher desire than your opponent, when you understand that failure hurts you a lot, not a little. It's not simple. When I say we're trying to improve in a lot of ways, you know. When we lost to Mulla, I said we still had a lot of work to do. Maybe we have to try to improve, because there are a lot of situations that need to be improved.

In my opinion, compared to the last few seasons and this season, when this team reached the Champions League final, a lot of things have changed. Now, we have to be realistic. We have to come together, including our fans. Tottenham fans have to understand that maybe they need to be patient, wait for a rebuild, and get back to the kind of situation they were used to before.

After three and a half months, things changed, not just me, but also the previous manager. If we have patience and want to work, that's the way it is. We work hard with the players and the players are very dedicated, but that's not enough, it's not enough, it's not enough.

I repeat, if we want to be competitive, we have to wait and rebuild, step by step. It's important to be realistic, and I'm making it very clear. I like to do that. It's not the first time I've told you the same thing, not the first time.
