In all the events of the Winter Olympic Games, snow sports account for about 70%. Ski jumping, alpine skiing, etc. are extremely fast and skilled sports, and the temperature of the snow surface and the snow shape will have a greater impact on the athletes. In order to provide a good meteorological data service guarantee for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, the Aerospace New Meteorological Company affiliated to the 23 affiliated departments of the Second Academy of Aerospace Science and Industry of China provides meteorological radar, automatic weather stations, snow temperature snow-like observers and other multi-type meteorological products for the three major competition areas, obtaining meteorological element information of different heights, different ranges and different categories, and providing scientific data support for the meteorological support of the Winter Olympics.

In view of the meteorological monitoring needs of the special venues of the Winter Olympic Games, Aerospace New Meteorological Company organized a technical research team to develop a wireless portable snow temperature snow observation instrument for the snow observation of the Winter Olympic Games, which automatically identifies the status of the snow and transmits the observations to the command department in real time, providing a strong guarantee for the short-term forecast service of the event venue.

In the three major competition areas of the Winter Olympic Games, nearly 40 sets of automatic meteorological observation station equipment for aerospace new weather are also distributed. They are like "small light poles" with their own suitcases standing on the top and mountainside of the track, wind direction, wind speed, temperature, humidity, snow depth... Every meteorological data that affects the competition status of the athletes on the side is collected and transmitted in real time.

"In addition to observing conventional meteorological elements, these devices can also combine the special meteorological service needs of special events to expand the observation of ground temperature, radiation, ultraviolet rays, etc., and provide a scientific basis for meteorological service personnel to analyze the local weather changes." In addition to the installation and maintenance of meteorological equipment, 23 institutes also participated in the construction of the meteorological data platform of the Hebei Meteorological Bureau and the Beijing Meteorological Bureau for the Winter Olympics. They developed the special version of the winter olympic automatic weather station networking platform software to achieve "second-level data sampling and minute packet transmission", laying a solid data foundation for the realization of the "100-meter-level, minute-level" meteorological forecast of the Winter Olympics.

For projects such as aerial skills and platform jumping, a detailed forecast of the wind is crucial. Aerospace New Meteorology has deployed and installed wind profile radar and millimeter wave cloud measurement radar in the Winter Olympic Games, monitoring the wind speed and wind direction for 24 hours, and making real-time forecasts of wind field changes, carrying out cloud and fog remote sensing detection 24 hours a day, quantitatively characterizing meteorological targets such as wind, snow, rain, and clouds when snowfall, rainfall and other weather processes occur, analyzing and understanding the weather laws of the competition area, and making refined forecasts for the weather change process in the competition area.

In addition, in the Haituoshan Race Area, a fully automatic high-altitude meteorological detection system for the miniaturization of aerospace new weather is also deployed, which can timely obtain information such as temperature, humidity, pressure and wind at high altitudes. At present, the equipment has participated in the operation and maintenance of meteorological equipment for the alpine skiing competition organized by the International Snow Federation in Haituoshan, accumulating valuable experience for the official holding of the Winter Olympic Games.

From the foundation to the air foundation, from a small point to a large area, meteorological equipment with different detection ranges and elements has woven a strict meteorological detection network to provide "dense" data services for meteorological observations of the Winter Olympics.
