Finally finished reading nearly 400 pages of "Long Hate Song".
The Long Hate Song is a work completed by Wang Anyi in 1994, and I came across and read it by chance on an ordinary day in September 2021.
There's a bit of a sense of time and space confusion.
The plane flew over the city, making a rumbling sound, deep in the city, surrounded by continuous voices, but in the moment of reading the book, time had a second or more of silence, as if all the sounds had disappeared, only a woman, hurt by a scoundrel, finally swallowed a breath.
It's like a silent piece, and it stops abruptly.
This ending is not good at all.
But for the protagonist Wang Qiyao, it may be a relief.
The human world is not worth it, it has failed her prosperous appearance, and the non-human trust is missed after all.
The novel won the Fifth Contradictory Literature Award.

At the beginning of the story, Shanghai in the 1940s was filled with the wretchedness of the rout of the Nationalist army and the signs of the victory of the Red Army. But in the eyes of ordinary people, it is also the same day and day as usual.
Seventeen-year-old Wang Qiyao is in the most beautiful Shaohua. Because of her friend Wu Peizhen's friendship with fashion, she participated in the selection of Miss Shanghai under the introduction of photographer Mr. Cheng, and was fortunate to win the third place and was named "Three Misses". Therefore, after her daughter went abroad, Wang Qiyao fell in love with an old Ke Wax. The so-called old wax is a nostalgic young man. The story of love and inability is repeatedly staged in this woman, the so-called red face and thin life is that you don't know where she is wrong, anyway, the experience is a twist.
In the end, she was killed by a scoundrel for money.
There are only two heart-warming people in the whole story, a grandmother who appears inadvertently when she is hiding, and an eternal spare tire Mr. Cheng. Grandma's ending was not said, but Mr. Cheng was humiliated and committed suicide by jumping off a building during the Cultural Revolution.
Wang Anyi is not from Shanghai, but she grew up in Shanghai, just like Zhang Ailing is not a Shanghainese, but she became famous in Shanghai. So their writing is a bit like that. But Zhang Ailing is more concise, and Wang Anyi's long story, there are many psychological descriptions, the most important thing is that it belongs to the old-school style of Shanghai, which is not something that people in the new era can understand. Just like the old wax, it knows its appearance, but it is difficult to touch the inside.
Perhaps it can be understood that 1949 was a hurdle in Shanghai culture, she was once synchronized with the world, but because of this hurdle, she was castrated, and many years later, some people wanted to restore or reshape that maritime style. But unfortunately, the descendants of the fallen nobles, after the transformation of workers and peasants, it is difficult to have the original natural ten mile ocean field style. And the descendants of workers and peasants are naturally insulated from style (just like Zhang Yonghong in the story, he is always a bystander)
There may not be a shortage of money, but the wind bone is not a matter of money. Just like Wang Qiyao's daughter Wei Wei, she is of the new era, but she is no longer a ten-mile ocean field, even if she has a mother with a style in her bones.
Beauty in the bone is not in the skin, Wang Qiyao is such a beauty who always lives in the old style no matter how to catch up.
But the most lamentable thing is the collapse of a city's cultural values, and from then on, the sea will eventually become empty, and the wandering soul will have no place to go.
