"Sources familiar with the situation said James Harden did not execute the next year's player option yesterday as other reports have suggested.
In simple terms, even if he was sent to the 76ers, Harden did not immediately give the 76ers a commitment to stay in action. Of course, Harden was still able to choose to execute the player option with $47.36 million before June 30, US time.
On the other hand, after Ben Simmons left the 76ers, the team's interior lineman Joel Embiid said that Simmons' biggest goal was to become a star player, not to win:
'He went to the team he wanted to join and unfortunately I think being a star player is his priority.'
