The American version of "Owei" settled in Sony and the transaction volume set a record in the European market

1905 Movie Network News A few days ago, the American version of "A Man Named Ovie Decided to Die" that had been in the project for more than 5 years settled in Sony. The film was sold at the European Film Market (EFM) at the Berlin Film Festival for $60 million, setting a record for the European film market.

The American version is called "A Man Named Otto Decides to Die", starring Tom Hanks, directed by Mark Foster, and written by David McKee, who has written "The Fantasy Drift of The Young Pi". The original film from Sweden, A Man Named Ovie Decides to Die, is a story of love and unexpected friendship, focusing on a grumpy widower who is alienated from the outside world and has a strange and withdrawn personality, who decides to end his life with dignity, but faces all kinds of obstacles.

The original novel of the same name, written in 2012 by Frederick Buckman, is a huge bestseller, having been on the New York Times bestseller list for 77 weeks and being translated into 43 languages for publication worldwide, including Chinese editions. The Swedish version of the film, directed by Hannes Helm and starring Rove Rasgard, was released in 2015 and grossed $3.47 million in a small-scale release in the United States, making it one of the top 10 foreign-language films in the U.S. market that year. According to the plan, this film may start shooting this year and be released on Christmas.
