China Mobile 0941.HK600941.SS, China's largest mobile communicator, announced on Thursday on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange that it had repurchased 7.304 million shares at a cost of about HK$420 million on February 10, with a repurchase price of HK$56.65-58.15 per share, representing 0.036% of the number of shares issued.
China Mobile's Hong Kong stock closed down about 2.8 percent on Thursday, and the stock has risen more than 20 percent this year. Its A-shares also closed down more than 2% on Thursday, but it has closed higher for three consecutive days and once hit a new high since listing, with a cumulative increase of about 14.6% during the week.
In January this year, China Mobile announced that, in view of the completion of the RMB share offering, it plans to exercise its power to repurchase Hong Kong shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange after the expiration of the exercise period of the rmb share issuance over-allotment option on February 7 and subject to compliance with regulations
According to the announcement, China Mobile was authorized by its shareholders to repurchase no more than 2.048 billion Hong Kong shares at the 2021 Annual General Meeting held in April last year, equivalent to no more than 10% of the number of Hong Kong shares issued on the date of the shareholders' meeting.
At the same time, China Mobile also announced on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in January that it plans to increase its holding of the company's A-share shares from January 21 to December 31, with a cumulative increase of 3-5 billion yuan.
On Wednesday, MSCI, an international index compiler, announced the results of its February 2022 quarterly index review, and China Mobile A shares were included in the MSCI China A-share onshore index; the remaining new constituents of the index also include Zhongwei New Materials 300919.
