Hundreds of African-Americans Slaughtered by White Mobs in 1921 Tulsa Holocaust Survivors: Justice, Reparations

author:CCTV News

Racism is a persistent disease of American society. Exactly one hundred years ago, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the horrific "Tulsa Massacre" took place, in which hundreds of African-Americans were slaughtered by white thugs, which can be called "the worst racial violence in American history."

On the 19th local time, three survivors of the "Tulsa Massacre" attended the hearing of a subcommittee of the US House of Representatives, demanding that the city of Tulsa and the perpetrators of the massacre be prosecuted and seek compensation for this incident.

On the same day, three survivors of the Tulsa Genocide, including Willa Fletcher, attended the hearing. Fletcher, 107 years old when the massacre took place, recalled the sensational tragedy at the hearing.

Tulsa Genocide survivor Vera Fletcher: I will never forget the atrocities of the white mob when we fled. I can still remember the people of African descent who were shot and killed, and they were dead in the streets. I still seem to be able to smell smoke and see fires, I can still see African-American shops being burned down, I can still hear planes flying overhead, I can still hear screams... I recall this history of the Holocaust every day, and our country may forget this history, but I can't.

Democratic Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee announced last month the creation of a reparations commission on the Tulsa genocide, and the House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on The Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties will hold a hearing on the bill next week to discuss possible legal remedies to compensate Holocaust survivors and their descendants.

On May 31, 1921, thousands of white mobs besieged the African-American community in Tulsa, Oklahoma, killing hundreds of African-American residents and injuring thousands more. The Tulsa Massacre has also been called "the worst genocide in U.S. history."
